What’s the Best Advice You’ve Ever Received?

All of us are where we are today partly because of our own efforts and partly because of the advice, guidance, influence and inspiration provided by others.  At Voyage we have the good fortune of connecting with so many of the city’s hidden gems – from entrepreneurs and creatives to athletes, researchers and more.  We asked them a simple, but important question: what is the best advice, personal or professional, that you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve received so far is too just keep striving and believing in myself. Also to take nothing personal just grow and progress from any situations.

Manny Williams- Entrepreneur and Entertainer

And the best advice given to me this far is by the great Billy Porter himself, “ whatever you do, always go in being your AUTHENTIC self. Never, the version you think someone else wants!”

The best advice I have received professionally is to invest I’m yourself. You must be willing to not only put in the energy to fulfill your goals and aspirations but monetarily as well. Additionally, do what you can control, if the assets are not there to allocate towards your movement, work with what you have, or you’ll become stagnant waiting for things to fall from the sky. Stay in perpetual motion towards your goals.. SLOW motion is better than NO motion ✌

Ray Phillips- Singer/songwriter

Whenever youre about to do something big, and God’s plan is working through you, the devil has a target on your back. Think of this as motivation. Look at that with a positive outlook. Your plans from God are so big, and so great, that the devil himself has to go out of his way to try and stop you. Never let him stop you.

Stacia Braner- Model

Photographer- Rich Meade

Overall, I think the best advice to anyone looking to join the modeling industry and the best advice that I have been given is to be yourself, keep a positive and upbeat attitude, and always be open to learning from the people you meet or your experiences along the way.

Sam Tokunaga – Managing Partner of the Triple Crown Group

When you fully understand that there is no such thing as defeat, but rather lessons learned, is when your victories and success begin to pile up – wisdom that my parents instilled in me at an early age, to encourage me to take risks.
