Throughout our journey with Voyage, the one thing we have learned over and over is that hidden within every challenge is a blessing or opportunity. It’s up to us to determine whether a challenge we face will be a step back or the catalyst for a step forward.
We had the honor of connecting with some of the city’s brightest female leaders and role models and we asked them our question of the month: What is the best advice you have for someone who feels like they are facing insurmountable odds.
Below, you’ll find their advice and links and other info so you can learn more about them, their work and how to connect with them. We’ll be interviewing many of these amazing women in the coming weeks, stay tuned.
Ronnise Clark- Atlanta & New Orleans REALTOR
My best advice is to just keep going. No matter how much it hurts just keep going. When your back is on the ropes and it’s round 10, you have to fight your way out of it or you will lose. I want us all to win.
The Saucy Boss Lularoe Michella McCoy- Fashion Retailer
When faced with a challenge that seems insurmountable I always tell myself and my team to “Let go and Let God.” I even have this tattooed on my wrist! We all face challenges that seem impossible but we have to know that God had our back and if we seek him we will find relief from whatever obstacles that may be in our way.
Victoria Strange – MBA & Real Estate Broker
For myself, when faced with challenges; is to focus on what the future state or desired outcome looks like. I paste it on a vision and goal board. I ask myself what activities do I need to do or people do I need to get there. What skills am I missing, what aspects of myself need to change or improve? Who do I need to become in the process? After all, success is mastery over processes. I find that focusing on the small activities and wins will help ensure I get there. I affirm Philippians 4:13 daily, ” I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me”. I correlate activities and task to gardening. I tell myself I’m planting seeds. Seeds don’t harvest overnight. Most importantly, Expect to “WIN”!
Dr. Kathi Middleton – Information Technology Leader & Educator
Life challenges are inevitable; at some point in life, we will all face problems of external circumstance or internal struggle. Life will present some of these problems, and we will create some for ourselves. The challenges will come in all sorts and conditions including death, betrayal, illness, adversity, and devastation. When insurmountable challenges present themselves, don’t oppose them. Welcome the problem, center yourself and ask, “What can I learn and give to this circumstance to move my life forward powerfully?” When we show gratitude for challenges despite the size or impact, we create space and garner strength to face the challenge powerfully. Know that each challenge we face is not intended to make us weak, but to reveal a new place of power.

My advice would be to look to Jesus because He has an answer for everything, you just have to ask for it to be revealed to you and trust in His process. Also to believe in yourself and never stop chasing your dreams because anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
Ari Irving- Painter & Illustrator
My advice would be; When faced with a situation that seems insurmountable, it is important to keep an open mind. New paths will present themselves as long as you remain receptive and try to be positive. Remember that not everything is permanent and it is okay to change your mind, your career, and your life.

Pray about it, and have faith that it is already taken care of. God will work it all out in your favor.
Ajai Guyot – Graphic & Web Designer
My advice to them would be to step out on faith. Nothing is too great to overcome. I for one can say that I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum. I’ve doubted myself and my circumstance by letting my fear and worry get the best of me; becoming my own worst enemy. I’ve found that this mindset kept me stagnate. However, the moment I decided to believe in myself and manifest positivity with faith and optimism, my success came. I was able to conquer things that I’d never imagined for myself. I believe you have to use fear and doubt, and let those drive you, face them head on and show them who the boss is. Moreover, being fearful is a good sign, because “if your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough.

I am a burn survivor, i walked through a fire pregnant to save my 3 children and suffered 3rd and 4th degree burns, spent months in the hospital recovering not knowing if i was gonna make it or not. This was the most challenging obstacle god has put me through, i know if i made it through all of that then I’m destined for greatness, my advice would be to PRAY, realize everything happens for a reason (even if we don’t understand it) never stop dreaming, know that you are exactly where you are supposed to be, never ever give up on your dreams! Speak what you want out of life into existence, the universe works through you, you are the universal 👽🌌

The best advice I could give someone who is facing a challenge they feel is insurmountable is to just take it one day at a time and to only focus on the things that you can control. When it comes to specific challenges, it can be daunting to try to tackle it all at once. Just do your best and know that it’s ok to not have everything completely figured out. Regardless of the situation, be confident in yourself and accept the fact that successes and even failures are a part of the process!
Monica Awe-Etuk – Atlanta fashion and lifestyle blogger
The best advice I have for someone who is facing a challenge, and feel insurmountable, would be to not give up. Challenges only happen to make us stronger. I know this because in my six year career as a blogger, I too have faced many challenges. But the one thing I refuse to do was to give up. I’m so grateful that I kept on going because hardships always lead to success.
Chastity R. Oakes President/Director of Nursing of Arise Health Institute, llc
My best advice is to first take a step back, take a deep breath, and tell yourself that you can do it. As the saying goes the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. Take that challenge and divide it up into smaller bits and before you know it the challenge will be accomplished. Nothing is insurmountable.
The best advice I have for someone who is facing a challenge that they feel is insurmountable, is to just turn to God for his guidance and peace to get you through this time. I also would suggest staying true to yourself, look for the positive even in the worst of situations! When you face challenges that seem too big for you to accomplish on your own, I encourage you to give your situation to God, and surround yourself with family and friends who are always there for you when you are feeling overwhelmed.
There are 3 stages of life. Not knowing, action and completion. Follow this and it’ll change your life”.
Ivey Hale- Travel blogger & mental health enthusiast
My best advice is to lean on your friends, family, God. Read motivational books, listen to uplifting podcasts. It’s important to know that there is no challenge that one can’t overcome. It’s all about changing your mindset and thinking positively. Stay patient and trust that God wouldn’t put you through something you couldn’t handle. Focus on the positives of your situation and things will start looking up.
Carlian Laforce – Aspiring Model
The best advice I could give to someone who is facing a challenge they think is insurmountable is that anything is possible. The world is full of opportunities, big and small. You just have to make a goal and do what you need to so you can reach it. After that goal, just set higher goals. Don’t let anyone make you feel small because you dream big. Don’t let anyone tell you how to live your life. Do what makes you happy.
Kesha Denise – Owner of Funky Flair Boutique & The Creator of Konvos with Kesha
First and foremost, PRAY (or meditate, whatever works for you) Secondly, shift your mindset to positive thoughts. The challenge is an opportunity to grow, so try your best to stay cheerful and position yourself around people who truly and genuinely love you; emotional support helps in time of challenge.
Share Allen – A Different Kind of REALTOR® & Interior Designer
Don’t focus on problem, but focus on the solution. I would say to start by making a list of all of the positive thing about you and what you have going on in your life. Start each sentence with “”I am or I already have”” reaffirming who you are, and manifesting your positive outcome. Look at your positive list when you wake up and before you go to bed. Remind yourself daily of how beautiful you are! Surround yourself with like minded, positive people who push you to be your best. Also step out of your comfort zone and learn something new. This is the best way to grow. All of the greatest people have fallen, gotten back up and learn from their experience. Something greater is always down the road.

For anyone that is facing a challenge in their life, my advice is to know who you are. You are important and the universe knows that you are important. Go within yourself to overcome these challenges. You will have challenges, learn the lessons presented in these challenges. This is a chance for you to gain strength and endurance. Surround yourself with positive people. Speak positively to yourself and others. You attract what you send out in the universe. Ultimately, find your high power. I truly believe if it wasn’t for my spirit and faith, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today. Pull your faith from deep within and know this too shall pass. Share your experience and seek professional help, if needed. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. We all are vulnerable at times. Our strength is in asking for help. I remember my spiritual advisor telling me “Pain is pushing the vison” Know that the potential in you is bigger than the problem.
Maria Thurman: Photographer & Writer
Take one step at a time, one day at a time and do not compare yourself to anyone.
My best advice to someone facing a challenge is to first take a deep breath. Inhale, love and energy. Exhale the doubt and negativity. Realize that while we can’t control the situation, we can control how we react to it. Nothing is too great for us to overcome. One must have courage, strength, and determination when in the face of adversity. I believe that we are capable of triumph if we want it bad enough. So ask yourself, “Is this something I really want?” And if it is, draw on every ounce of strength that you have and never give up.
Kristine Jaime Owner of Krisjewel Salon (Hairstylist & Hair Extensions Specialist)
The best advice I can give to someone is to be confident in yourself. No one will be your biggest cheerleader but you. Don’t compare yourself to others that will distract you away for reaching your goals. Invest in yourself and if your in a moment where it feels difficult just remember how much you accomplished and to always surround yourself with people who wants to grow with you and who motivate and inspires you.
Jumoke Adedoyin, Dentist and Life Balance Mentor
Life is full of challenges, problems and hassles. And when we go through a challenge, we sometime feel as though we carry the weight of the world. As a child of God, I believe that we are endued with enough strength, perseverance to withstand whatever challenges come our way and if we keep a positive attitude through the difficult time, we come out at the end with a better sense and awareness of how strong we really are and sometimes it is okay to reach out for help.

When faced with a challenge that seems insurmountable, stay focused, stay positive and give it your all. Often when we are given a task that we deem is impossible, we tend to become negative and not try as hard. Giving it your all is really important because even if you do not exceed, you will at least gained some results or knowledge.
