Today we’d like to introduce you to Ericka K Myers.
Ericka, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2016, I started my company with $200 on my living room floor in Dunwoody, GA. Hence the name, Ch0ked was initially solely a handmade choker line. After being told many no’s and failed attempts, I gave up. After a mental health break, Ch0ked was relaunched a few months later. This is when we began to offer hand made earrings. We went from offering earrings to handbags to shoes followed by many other accessories. In 2018, my business truly began to blossom. We were blessed to grow our clientele, get magazine features as well as work with some A-list celebrities. While I can say that I’ve been blessed with a God-given talent, I also have to contribute my success to hard work and dedication. I pray, manifest and pay it forward by pouring into other black women entrepreneurs.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! entrepreneurship is a God-given test. Initially, I struggled with consistency, lack of education, and lack of support. I think the biggest thing of all was understanding and creating a balance. I had to learn that you have been able to lose in order to win.
Please tell us about Ch0ked By Ericka K.
Ch0ked is a handmade women’s accessory company. We specialize in statement pieces. We have been known for our tassel work on earrings, handbags, and shoes. When creating, my idea is always to go big or go home. I am most proud of myself because I haven’t always believed in myself. For lack of better words, my “umph” comes from my clients. Many of them incorporate our designs into bridal parties, maternity shoots, fabulous girls trips, etc. My work ethic sets me apart. I can remember on November 26, 2018, I had emergency surgery to have my gallbladder removed at 9:30 am and by noon, I remember posting content for our Cyber Monday sale. See what sets you apart is by doing what others aren’t willing to do.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was watching my mom create porcelain dolls.
