Today we’d like to introduce you to F.M Ellis.
F.M, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Everything started out as normal as could be. Loving parents, close-knit family. We took road trips, went fishing, went on athletic competitions, and ate all of our meals as a family at the table. Life was like it should have been. However, something happened to me that cause a rift that took decades of seemingly failed attempts to get back to what I once knew as normal. Along the way, I encountered multiple incarcerations, alcohol abuse, promiscuity, and absolute rock bottom results from choices made as a result of not being authentic with myself or my loved ones. It wasn’t until I attend a seminar that made me face how I was showing up in the world that I started to understand my choices and power to make different ones.
The results did not come immediately, but over time I started to surround myself with people, messages, and organizations that helped me look to where I was headed as opposed to where I had come from. There was no groundbreaking moments, no BIG aha. Just one foot in front of the other in the right direction, furthering the distance between my past and my future. One day I was the woman I am today. A woman with a story to tell and the courage to tell it so now, My Life As A Lemon: The Memoirs of Me can exist for others to read and be inspired by my journey to push forward.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My life’s road has been under construction for as long as I’ve been on it. Lots of potholes, flooding, detours, traffic jams, and multiple accidents with serious injuries. With each detour or delay, I began to mentally transition from the “If its not one thing its two” to a mentally of “I bring about what I think about.” I started to make plans, set dates, and share my ambitions. I still practice this today. The things along the road that once kept me from my destination are no longer there. Yes, there are still delays and detours but now I know I am on the right road. I am patient, I allow myself time and I obey the traffic laws. No struggle, just life. Even with the shift in perspective, writing my book wasn’t always easy because I had to go back to some dark places in order to tell my story as authentically as possible but to have the tools to help me navigate life keeps me in a position to live my life vs. having life just happen to me.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a project manager by trade, but I have written my memoirs in order to lead a more inspiring life. Therefore, I am a newly published author and I specialize in words. I am known for doing whatever it is I commit to. I am most proud of the reaction I am receiving from my memoirs. My Life As A lemon; The Memoirs of me.
What sets me apart from others, although my story is filled with traumatic events, I have managed to convey the realness of it without the heaviness that some of these situations typically bring. I keep things in perspective while getting my message across. I am connecting to my readers just as I intended to.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the wise words of Thomas A. Edison, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” With that being said. I have learned to embrace what I now call the “Lemon”. All the toxic, bitter, and harden parts of me along with the bright, beneficial, healthy parts. I am focusing on making an impactful, touching, and inspiring those who have fought similar battles. Regardless of where they are in the battle… the beginning, the middle, or the end.
My BIG change is to deliver the message of completeness and recognizing that everything we need to overcome and triumph is already embedded within us. It just up to us to adjust our perspective. Giving others the good stuff that was given to me. That is my future.
