The idea to start my own hair care line came about in 2014. I was a hair blogger at the time and I found an interest in ingredients that were in the products I was reviewing. I became so eager to research and learn more about ingredients, how they work, and how they affect our hair. I found that a lot of the ingredients in the hair products I used at that time were filled with toxic chemicals that ultimately do nothing for textured hair. I was also struggling to find products that worked on my daughter’s kinky hair. So, I began to experiment with different ingredients and formulating products. After using them on my daughter’s hair, I began to distribute them to close family. The products were an absolute hit. A hobby of mine turned into a passion. Carrie J Hair Care was born in 2015, named after my late grandmother. And we launched in 2018.
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey has not been easy. I have struggled with staying consistent at times when sales were slow. I struggled with keeping inventory stocked. I also struggled with finding the right equipment and supplies since my products are handmade. I have found it hard balancing motherhood and business. I am a single mom, so that has probably been the biggest challenge. Though the journey hasn’t been smooth, it’s been so rewarding. Doing what I love while inspiring others makes my heart full.

Carrie J Hair care is a line of 100% natural hair and beard products formulated to hydrate and moisturize dry and brittle textures. And recently, we expanded into skincare. We specialize in making hair happy! Our mission is to educate, enthuse, and empower. We educate on the products and the ingredients that are in the products. We want you to know what you are putting on your hair. We also aim to enthuse and build confidence when it comes to hair. And lastly, we empower each and every person we come in contact with to be the very best version of themselves.
As the owner and founder, I am most proud to have a company thats authentic, transparent, and relatable. I built Carrie J Hair Care off of the foundation that my grandmother had already set. I know she would be so proud!
The above statement is what I feel sets us apart. Our mission is always the same. We don’t just sell amazing products, we genuinely care about our customers. Which is why we aim to educate, enthuse, and empower.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that there are so many opportunities to network and meet new people. I have been granted so many opportunities in just two years. Although I do not have any dislikes, I will say the competition in the hair care industry is real! You have to be able to stand out and bring something different to the industry.
