Our team comes across so many incredible local creations everyday – from one of kind furniture and unique dresses to art, photography and a world of handmade goods. In depth, personal stories are at the heart of VoyageATL, but we also want to take time to highlight and celebrate individual creations that have the power to inspire. Below, you’ll find a collection of local creations that our editorial team is in love with.
Our office in the great state of Texas today. We embossed more than 500 leather cord keeper rolls for a private party in Houston with a local law firm. Guests included VIPs from all the major oil companies in the area. We had a great time and enjoyed the view. This was me for 12 hours out of this weekend. I’m so thankful not only for the chance to do live calligraphy again and @jimmychoo nonetheless, but to have ample amounts of time to think! I’ve got some big decisions to make this week and time always brings clarity. So, what do I actually do for a living?? . So many people ask to intern with us to see what it means to set up an event. Somehow in their mind, they have romanticized wedding set up to mean that it is all butterfly kisses and glitter sparkles with magic happening at every single moment. 😂 . The truth is, wedding set-ups are incredibly intense and very laborious. . We wake up very early on wedding days to finish last minute touches such as boutonnières and wrapping of the bouquets. When all of our detail work is done, we begin doing all of the heavy lifting to get all of the design products as well as the decor items into the vehicles for transport. At this point on any given day, we each lift a total of about 300 pounds for transport. But it gets better…we do this twice because we need to unload it all at the venue! Then the dressing of the space begins. We install the lighting, set all of the linens in place and make sure any draping is executed perfectly. Finally for the florals and decor items, we begin to pepper the space with beautiful splashes of color and candlelight. I walk behind my staff adding blooms, adjusting foliage and even designing some of the larger pieces on site! When everything is in place, then we begin the meticulous task of lighting all of the candles. It can take up to 5 staff members armed with lighters to light up a room. . But it is glorious. It is magical. It is perfect. . Knowing you labored so hard to make this thing of beauty come to life and to watch it dazzle in the eyes of your bride is magical for sure. . Then we get to clean up, load up the van and wait until strike when we break every last thing down at the end of the party. More heavy lifting, bagging up linens, blowing out candles, cleaning vases and saving flowers for donation. Not to mention putting all of the inventory back in its place! . Yes it's exhausting. It's a lot of work. It really isn't glamorous and certainly isn't easy but I was made for this. ❤️ . Does anyone else have a career that seems to be romanticized?? What do you want to share as a reality?? . 📸 by @_katiesutter
It’s been a while since I did a #fridayintroduction post. Not much has changed – I still love ampersands and survive mostly off of Reese’s Cups. Only now I get to eat them while working from a new apartment. In other news, I realized how much I love having other letterers in my life. #yougetme 💕 If anyone’s looking for new #calligrafriends, let’s connect! Let’s be pen pals and send each other happy mail! I promise only 80% will include puns 😅
This day last year, I was very pregnant and on a plane headed to Oregon to visit Katie for weekend of flowers and teaching. It turned out to be MUCH more than that. Katie unlocked something inside of me that finally helped me realize my true talent, while understanding who I am as a designer. Katie, I’m forever grateful for you and your sweet family for pouring into me! Now excuse me while I blow my feed up with some images (which were featured on @weddingsparrow) from that crazy beautiful design experience! Photography: @alexandragracephoto
