Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Aden.
Mary, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Artist + Creative Director. b. 1979 | Grew up in Atlanta, Georgia
2001 | Graduated from Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia.
2010 | Graduated from Mercer University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia.
Currently works out of her studio in Atlanta, GA. I have been obsessed with all things art since I can remember. As a small child, you could find me walking straight to the art aisle in any store. I have been taking classes my entire life. I even had the amazing opportunity to study Art History + Photography for a summer in Bayeux, France. Fast-forward about 10 years. I completely stopped creating… It wasn’t until I picked up a paintbrush after a long break that something in me forever changed. I found a piece of my soul I didn’t even know was missing. Life had gotten in the way. I COMPLETELY forgot about my love of creating. Now, I’m beyond thrilled that I can continue to create thanks to my amazing clients + collectors.
My approach to painting is intuitive + personal. I spend a lot of my time out of the studio being rigid + anxious. When I step into the studio my anxiety melts away. Painting for me is a form of meditation. When I am working on a piece, I am lost in the actual moment. Crazy, right!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I think that my art captures a lightheartedness. My art is inspired by artists in Australia, I love how they use vibrant colors and cheerful works. I work with acrylics and also mixed media. I want people to relax and smile when they are looking at my work.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think the biggest challenge right now for me at least is deciding to work with galleries or do it on my own. I think there is a unique thing happening where artist have more of a chance to make it on their own without the help of galleries which is seemingly a new concept
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently in a group show at Art of Touch in Midtown Atlanta.
