Community Highlights: Meet Quintera Hadley of Sacred Moments Doula and Lactation Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quintera Hadley.

Hi Quintera, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into motherhood wasn’t something out of the ordinary but to those around me and from what I witnessed, it was different. I hadn’t seen breastfeeding or home/water birth in my family. I hadn’t heard of experiences with midwives and doulas. I have two amazing children and pregnancy with them were two different experiences. With my first pregnancy, I became engulfed in all things birth. I wanted to know all that would and could happen. With my own personal feelings about hospitals and doctors, the first decision I made was to do my prenatal care in a birthing center with a midwife. I read, watched videos, and attended all the classes. I gave birth non medicated to a healthy baby girl and breastfed her for over a year.

The second pregnancy was a planned home birth with a midwife but around the end of the pregnancy, things with my health ruled out that home birth and I had to switch care and deliver in the hospital. My midwife was still by my side along with my doula. That experience changed my life because the feelings I had, the connections made, helped me more than I knew at that moment. The things I learned and experienced made me want to share it with anyone who would listen, even if they were not pregnant. I wanted families to know they matter, they have a choice and options, and I want them to be educated and informed to be able to make those choices. As a holistic doula, I pride myself on making sure families are confident in their choices and know they are in charge of their birth story.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This road hasn’t been smooth but because I am so passionate about women, pregnancy, birth and birthrights, and children. I keep pushing through. Some struggles along the way were being confident in myself to be able to support families. I have often questioned myself if I know what I’m really doing, am I doing this right, and so forth. Also, finding the right training that aligned with my beliefs, morals, and values. I initially ran from the role of a doula thinking it wasn’t meant for me. I was heavily focused on breastfeeding and lactation. But this has continuously shown up in my path and I finally decided that this is it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sacred Moments Doula and Lactation Services?
I am a holistic birth doula supporting families through one of the most sacred transitions. I want people to know that I do not replace partners I actually urge partners to bond more during this journey. I want fathers and partners to know they matter in this as much as the mother. Whether it’s home or hospital, non-medicated or cesarean. I will be there to support you in the ways you need. Services offered are birth doula services, virtual doula services, birth planning, breastfeeding and childbirth education and belly casting. I am most proud of the fact that I have make witnessed mothers come to me knowing what they want already but after receiving information and education, they end up changing their minds after discovering options they have that they didn’t know about.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice would be to read and research, get a mentor, and trust the process. It isn’t always easy, clients won’t come right out the gate but there is a community here ready and willing to help in any way you need.
