Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis D.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started ‘TheLillySpeaks’ out of a need to free myself from people bondage, and as a means to heal others through my transparency/authenticity. I am authentic about my journey as a 20 something, but also open about life experiences that have shaped me into the woman I am today. The good AND the not so favorable. By the grace of God, I am in this present moment with the ability to be a better version of myself. The need to speak up has become an urgent call to action as I have matured. Additionally, it has transformed into an online brand, and into a legitimate business model (LLC). Down the line, ‘TheLillySpeaks’ will branch into other arenas. I’m very excited about where this brand is going!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No one’s journey is ever a smooth road! Life hands each of us hurdles, and each adversity is meant to grow us. Ultimately, my journey has strengthened me. Although it makes me uncomfortable and produces anxiety at times, im grateful for my journey. I’m grateful for my bumpy, not so smooth, path. It’s building my character!
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a blogger, model, and marketer. My blogging is based on YouTube, Instagram, and my website TheLillySpeaks.com. I’m most know for my blogging and writing. A lot of times, I express them in spoken word, VLOGS, Blog Post, and even random talking videos. My craft is in speaking, and speaking truthfully. I speak through my art of fashion, modeling, and video production. TheLillySpeaks is a business that serves as a representation for the underrepresented, and as a voice for the silenced. In our current times, many people hype up their lives on social media and wear facades. TheLillySpeaks is about authenticity. Showing that every day isn’t going to be a sunny day, but the fact that you made it another day serves as more reason to continue to fight for it. Truth is what sets us apart. Love is what sets us apart. Acknowledging the journey is what we are about. We are here to empower everyone we meet! There are no Big I’s and Little You’s over here.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
I am an avid book reader so being able to enjoy a quiet moment to reflect on a good book is something I enjoy. Both of my parents instilled in me the importance of reading and I am so very grateful for that. I’m currently reading Michelle Obama’s book entitled, ‘Becoming.’ It’s amazing being a black woman and witnessing her pursuit and belief in herself! I have coined her as my virtual mentor until I can manifest my physical one. Another book that has really changed my thoughts on my self has been the ‘Holy Bible.’ These last couple of months have been hectic, and as I got more into God’s presence by reading his word, I become more confident. This confidence transcends into everyday life, and especially at work.
