Conversations with the Inspiring Alisha Jiwani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Jiwani.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Alisha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started blogging about a year ago when I realized I needed a creative outlet for my passions, which included a mix of fashion, fitness, and beauty. It’s so important to me to have something to look forward to every day when I come home. The idea of “work-sleep-eat-repeat” is honestly the most mind-numbing ordeal to me- I wanted something I could devote my creative energies to on a daily basis. When I first started blogging, I honestly didn’t know that much about it and how much work it really takes. It’s definitely a huge time commitment, but I try to give at least 30 minutes to 1 hour a day to adding content and improving my blog. It’s still not super easy, especially when I have late work days or busy weeks, but I know that I’m in charge of my blog and I can control when and what I want to post. As of now, I’m really working towards building a strong foundation that I can keep adding on to month after month, and year after year.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve been writing in a journal ever since I was 8, but I finally decided to start writing publicly on my blog last year, which was so nerve-wracking. It’s hard to be under that kind of scrutiny sometimes because there definitely is a certain societal view on “lifestyle bloggers” that has a negative connotation. If I ever hear something negative or feel like my content is perceived a certain way, I try to brush it off. It’s so easy to get swept up in other people’s opinions, but I always remind myself that “other people” do not decide what I do, I’m in control of my life. I know there are so many amazing bloggers out there and it’s kind of hard to get swept up in this wave, but it’s important to remind yourself that you’re in charge of your actions, and you just have to take it day by day.

What should we know about Alisha’s Approach? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m most proud of my content and writing. It can honestly be so hard to think of new and unique posts that people actually want to read, but I’m happy to say that my blog engagement has increased month by month. I love being able to share the fitness tips that I’ve relied on so religiously and being able to share my favorite fashion and beauty trends at the same time. Blogging is so versatile, and I love being able to share my thoughts on topics that I care about.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned in the past couple of years is that networking is about building relationships in order to actually cultivate those relationships, not about getting higher up on the ladder. There are days where I’ve needed advice on what to do with my blog or my Instagram page, and I’ve reached out to bloggers who have been SO nice and supportive with me. I actually made one of my best friends by reaching out and asking her to meet up with me for coffee, so I could ask her questions about HER blog and get her feedback on what I could do better. If you truly admire someone’s work, let them know. If you have a question about how they do something, ask. The worst that could happen is they leave you on read. 😉
