Conversations with the Inspiring Beautifull

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beautifull.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been a dancer. I trained in ballet, jazz, modern, character, and some hip hop from Jr. high school through college. I moved to Atlanta in 2009 and began Go-Go dancing for local party planners and club promoters. It was also then that I began to explore the art of burlesque style, sensual dance styles, and pole dancing as an art, a way of dance expression, and overall confidence builder and personal sense of wellness.
Dance has always been something I did as a way to get out what I could never say in words growing up. I also always have had a love for fitness, dance and athletic skill, which blossomed into a love for performing.

I was ALWAYS shy and focused on school work and dance gave me the confidence to come out of my shell. That was probably the only time I was more outgoing–when I was on stage or performing.

I connected with burlesque groups of all types in the city and other group focused performance groups and eventually found my way to doing my own thing in a way that aligned with my style, personality, and creative perspective.

I have been able to be booked with some amazing event hosts and curators across the city of Atlanta who book me to create, dance, or collaborate with them. I have always enjoyed that and continue to do so because I live for the love of collaborating with other brilliant minds that share my same or similar passion for dance, sensual empowerment, and self-love mission through creative mediums.

In 2014, I created the brand Bedroom Burlesque to provided an essence of sexy and fun dance performances for events such as Atlanta Pride, birthday parties, themed celebrations, and corporate entertainment. Bedroom Burlesque also caters to women who want to book private group parties with their friends to learn a sexy dance routine in celebration of life, love, freedom, and feminine empowerment and confidence.

Soon after, Sensual Self Fitness was branded as a weekly public group class that embodied sexy and sensual moves into a fun and energizing workout. This allows women to learn sexy dance moves and practice them in sequence as they tone different muscle groups, strengthen their sexual self-esteem, and inspire their own sensual self-concept.

Has it been a smooth road?
No road is ever really smooth and for that I am grateful. Each bump or curve in the road has allowed me to grow, slow down, rethink, and revamp. There are also times where the road has been smooth which allows me to build my sense of accomplishment in doing what I enjoy and love.

The struggles along the way have been ME. Getting in my own way has been the biggest obstacle to date. Second guessing myself… not feeling my best to be able to create or perform… battling anxiety, depression, and low self-worth… dealing with life, in general, has been a struggle at times. As I seek to impart an essence of confidence, personal freedom, stress relief and fun for those I facilitate classes for or in the events I perform in, I as well impart those things into myself as a reminder when things get hard or I lose faith.

There have been times where I have stopped my classes for a while, taking a break to take care of me. There have been times where no one has shown up to class… and I still dance for myself. There are times where the money I invest in productions or classes, simply does not create a break even or profit. Yet… I still show up… I still dance… I still seek to inspire and help women heal and grow and enjoy who they are no matter their age, size, race, or background.

The advice I give to women starting their journey in their chosen field of passion is to: 1. Get out of your own way –be careful of things you say to yourself and practice positive self-talk. This can be a difference in you moving forward, standing still, or retreating and 2. Show up for yourself every single moment, every day… no matter who shows up for or with you. Sometimes, things may seem lonely… or stagnant… yet so much is still able to happen in those times for building your brand, your business, or your overall self-improvement as you prepare for the next level. Showing up is always loud or busy or bubbly… sometimes, it will be quiet… in the shadows or subtle… know for yourself what it means to show up for you and do it often.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Bedroom Burlesque and Sensual Self Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
Sensual Self fitness provides public sensual dance fitness classes for women ages 18 to 98.
It incorporates legs, core, and calisthenics to tone, strengthen, and engage muscles, coordination, flexibility, sensual agility, sexual self-confidence, and personal self-care and fun.

I also provide sensual and burlesque style productions with my brand, Bedroom Burlesque, where I create from my own repertoire of show concepts or from a client’s themed request. These are shows of sensual dance, storytelling, and/or tips and insight about sensuality and intimacy.

Bedroom Burlesque also entails hour long sensual celebrations for women to book for themselves and their friends to learn a sexy dance routine.

I specialize in helping women to decrease their anxiety and self-doubt about their sensuality and be able to embrace their own sense of erotic autonomy and unique bodies and sensual movement.

As a Licensed Counselor, I embrace being able to help women relax via guided meditations, setting intentions and personal goals, practicing positive self-talk, and creating self-concepts that align them with feeling their best and overcoming personal challenges.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
One of the barriers to female leadership is the misconception of the need to shrink oneself in order to not be perceived in ways that are unbecoming—Making ourselves smaller in order to avoid gossip or disappointment. Many people in general miss opportunities to be under positive leadership or gain followership skills and thus creating barriers to themselves in being a leader that is conducive in this industry.
