Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlecia Hunter.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Carlecia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At the age of sixteen, I decided to turn my creative eye into a small business right in the kitchen of my home. I have always had a strong desire to be self-sufficient and take on new things while investing in myself. With encouragement and guidance from a family who has great talent in culinary, I used my learning skills to make something of my own as a young entrepreneur in Atlanta. Cravings by Car is a home-based bakery business specialized in serving chocolate covered fruits, pastries, cakes and cupcakes customized with a variety of toppings: candy bars, dessert syrups, and cookies. From 2015, marketing to high school classmates, family, and friends till fours years later with substantial growth where I now maintain great customer service to both new and loyal customers catering events, providing seasonal dessert menus and regular order call-ins.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As for anyone who believes they are capable of challenging and surpassing the “what ifs” in their life, I encourage full take over. Sometimes, the biggest let down comes from ourselves due to fear and self-doubt however, if you learn to conquer your goals with a positive mindset, you will have a better chance at success. My advice for young women who are beginning to start their journey or who is in the midst of rewriting their story is to avoid measuring your destiny because it is limitless if you keep your focus and stay true to yourself. Your support, winning season and breakthrough will come the minute you align your journey with an overall purpose that results in a greater good.
What should we know about Cravings by Car? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am most proud of the confidence and determination that I had as a sixteen-year-old developing my bakery business, Cravings by Car. As of today, I still withstand my perseverance and hustle while being a full-time college student at Tennessee State University and not giving up on what has brought me through the lenses of wanting more like a young businesswoman. At such a young age, I decided to take on the full responsibility of learning a new skill set of business that has led me to achieve beyond what is in front of me as I am now entering my junior year in college majoring in Business Administration. What sets me apart from others is my eagerness of not wanting to give up because I want more for myself so that I am able to give back to others by helping those around me become motivated to strive for greatness regardless of their backgrounds.
It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Social media has definitely served as a helpful resource to market and tell my story to those around me and within my community. Once I genuinely presented what I love to do, with social media various individuals have been able to gain attention to something positive and have the opportunity to support, become motivated and be inspired.
