Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Darpoh.
Kim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
So, I actually had a friend suggest to me that I should start blogging and sharing my nursing journey on Instagram to reach masses of people. When she first told me I was kind of hesitant to do it, but after some thought and prayer, I finally did it. And it’s been one of the best decisions yet that I have made.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been an easy road at all. So many sacrifices have been made from me, my family, and friends to get where I am today. In fact, when I was in nursing school I got pregnant with my daughter who is now three years old. And I had to make the decision to take a few months off from school to deliver her. That ultimately pushed back my graduation date. At the time, that was a little disappointing, because, in my mind, I was already set for my original graduation date. However, in the end, everything all worked out for the better. My advice for any woman who is just starting out their journey is no matter how challenging the journey gets to stick with it. Nothing you truly want in life is going to be easy, but the rough times where you are challenged are going to make you be so much more appreciative of your journey when you make it through them.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a Registered Nurse with my BSN who works in the ER full time. At the same time, I have a brand on Instagram @nursekimdarpoh where my main goals are to inspire, encourage, and educate others. I do this by sharing my challenges and victories throughout my nursing journey and personal life. The year of 2019 has been huge for me, because I launched my website, nursekimdarpoh.com. On my website, I blog on a wide range of topics from nursing, family life, travel, and etc. I also host events that give an opportunity to network with other nurses and just genuinely have fun together. This also happens to be one of my proudest moments, because I’m all about uplifting and encouraging others. And my events do exactly that. I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m able to show that as a wife, mom, nurse, and entrepreneur you can be successful. On top of that, you can find a balance with all of those roles and truly love what you do.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
From a young age, I always showed great leadership skills. When teachers would assign group projects, I was often the leader of the group. I never minded it at all, because I felt that I naturally fit that role anyway. Looking back now, I see how having good leadership skills has set me up for success in my role of being an entrepreneur.
