Today we’d like to introduce you to Mari Suggs.
Mari, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2012, I discovered the book The Secret, after having a meltdown at my 9-5. I awakened to the fact that I had control of my life, by controlling my thoughts. I began on a journey of personal growth that led me to believe in myself and to help others. By doing so, I became an International bestselling author with my self-help book #Believe Dammit: 10 Principles for Attracting and Creating the Life You Crave.
I’m currently working on launching an online course teaching others how to Get Unstuck and Start Believing In Yourself.
Has it been a smooth road?
As many will tell you, reaching for your goals is never an easy road, but it is very rewarding. I’ve put in a lot of time, sweat and tears over the years, oftentimes, without seeing any results. Plus, at every turn, there was a new thing I had to learn. I’m a writer, but writing is just one of the many things I had to do to move the needle in my favor. I had to learn how to create websites, how to market my books, how to grow an audience, how to format my books, how to edit videos, how to create an online course. It’s a constant stream of learning and then, putting into action to achieve the desired outcome.
The biggest advice I have is to be patient. There’s no such thing as an overnight success.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m an International bestselling author of #Believe Dammit: 10 Principles for Attracting and Creating the Life You Crave. I’m also an entrepreneur, writer, teacher, life coach, and author mentor. But the title I love the most is that of wife, mother, and grandmother. I’m also the author of contemporary fiction novels More Than Words Can Say and Falling For You.
My number one goal in life is to give others the gift of joy. I believe that true joy comes from understanding who you truly are, and what you’re here to do.
What sets me apart from others in my industry I believe is that I put people first, and my books second. I sometimes find it difficult to promote my books, but promoting wellness and a healthy mindset, I can do that all day long.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I’m going to talk specifically about the self-published community and social media. I believe the biggest struggle here is the copy effect. There are so many different ways we can all share our unique voice and brand, and yet, some in the self-published industry seem to feel the need to stick with one opinion.
I’ve struggled with this in the past, but the more I put myself out there, the more I realize that nothing beats authenticity.
I would encourage those in my niche to step outside the box and not to be afraid to share their own journey, without needing to fit in.
