Conversations with the Inspiring Rashai Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashai Jones aka Shai baby.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was majoring in Mass Communication Broadcast Journalism, so I could be an on-air personality and multimedia journalist/reporter in the entertainment industry. Therefore, I wanted to intern in my field, so I found an internship to work for (Umeektv) as their media correspondent, however, I never met the man in charge, and he just threw me to the ocean without knowing if I could swim, and overall, the company was just unprofessional, to say the least. But I don’t want to bad mouth that company because that experience made me realize I can do this exact same thing, but better, and my own way. So, I did, me and my mother (momager who handles bookings and management) and a friend of mine who is my personal videographer and I called it Shaibabytv. What makes me different than a lot of these media outlets is I am Faith, and Christ-driven, meaning I keep God in everything I do and trust him to help build my brand and don’t just look for celebrities to interview and big red carpets to attend, although I do go and have interviewed many Grammy award-winning celebrities and public figures in the media such as Omar Epps, Niecy Nash, Mykko Montanna, Bsimone, radio personalities Brii Renee, And Young Joc and many more. However, I still reach out to people like myself, underdogs with a passion, and dream that they’re chasing but don’t have enough funds, connections, or whatever the case may be to be in the limelight. My platform is for everyone who is anyone chasing their dream and/or in their bag and would like to share their story.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been a smooth journey, more like a roller coaster. However, I am grateful for my ups and downs because it made me who I am today. Some obstacles I had to overcome started from me not going to a university that had a good mass communication broadcast program. Then on top of that, not having meaningful internships, so I had to basically fend for myself and teach myself the ropes of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. However, I did have two influential people in my corner who coached me and gave me constructive criticism. I consider them my mentors, Ms. Jessica Fairley and Mr, Eric Tabor. So, not only was the lack of knowledge in this field and the particular career I wanted (media correspondent/entertainment news reporter/talk show host) was a struggle for me but for a long period of time I was car less due to a bad accident so I had to constantly find rides to and from my destination. Thank God, I finally have a new car now and no longer have that setback. However, there are still obstacles that I struggle with right now sometimes such as being overlooked because a media outlet and/or person views me As an underdog with little to no resources. Shaibabytv is small right now, not many people know of it or me for the matter as they do a big public figure and because of that I may get treated as an underdog and get overlooked. It’s unfortunate but I know God’s got me because when one door closes, another one opens, and I’m a firm believer of God giving you what your heart desires if you seek the kingdom first, and I and God are good, so I know I’ll be on top in due time. I’m trusting him and the process. I’ll soon go from overlooked to overbooked, I’m claiming it. Period.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a media correspondent which is an entertainment news reporter and talk show host. My podcast/vlog/brand is Shaibabytv. I am known for being that dope Christian boss chic who is very inspiring and motivational and likes to have fun. My media outlet is different from the rest because it’s a faith-based media outlet, meaning God is head of my brand. He’s the reason I stepped on faith in the first place to start this. My media outlet is also different from the rest because not only do I interview celebrities and public figures that are already popping, but I interview underdogs like myself who have a passion and craft for something but would like more exposure and a chance to share their story. I interview everyone who is anyone. Even my slogan consists of “It’s ya girl shaibaby and you already know, I’m here, there, everywhere.” Yes, to book me is a small fee. However, that covers me and my videographers travel cost, time, and editing of the video that the talent can keep.

It would be great to hear about any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve used and would recommend to others.
Yes, I love self-help books like Faithing It by Cora Jakes Coleman, Last but not least..Steve Harvey. In no particular order, Joyce Meyers Battlefield of the mind. As far as podcast, I love Sarah Jakes online sermons. I feel as if that woman is my spiritual mentor and God made her just for me, she is so dope, and real, and fly, yet she’s still a Christian woman. She’s what I imagine myself like when I get older, she’s ratchet and righteous (her words, not mine, lol) and I love that. Honestly, I’m just like that, I’m a mixture of Nicki Minaj and Sarah Jakes Roberts… if you know, you know!
