Conversations with Errica Camper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Errica Camper.

Hi Errica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Errica’s Treasures is a luxury handcrafted jewelry and retail boutique. It focuses on accessories created from genuine gemstones, beads, crystals, metals and other materials along with limited signature candles and ready-to-wear apparel. Our products range from waist beads, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, earrings, t-shirts, sweat-shirts, and candles.

I started the business as a means to create products that were unique to me. I’ve always had an affinity for fashion and jewelry. I wanted to create products that stood out, particularly to women in business who sometimes feel they have to be conservative because of their professions such as myself. I realized that jewelry is what helps to represent the personality of each individual. I decided to create jewelry that was custom and unique for everyday wear from the office to evening wear. Most recently, I extended my jewelry line to waist beads as an affirmation to love oneself no matter your body size or type.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road as there has always been a learning, emotional, and cost curve to this adventure of being an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur who also has a full-time career in Corporate America, and most recently a full-time student, the biggest struggle is finding time to provide consistent input so that I achieve the output I am seeking. Other struggles have been R&D where it has been costly to ensure I am providing quality products. This all creates an emotional roller coaster. Many times I want instant gratification but had to understand that quality and success take time. Oftentimes, I must remind myself of my WHY and my PURPOSE to keep moving ahead. Through understanding my why and my purpose, having faith and belief in myself, the rocky roads only became chapters to my stories that I can now look back at to see how far I have come.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
By day, I work for a financial institution in Human Resources Talent Acquisition as a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Recruiting Consultant. Pretty much I focus on brand awareness, partnerships with various diverse organizations, HBCUs, HSIs, PWI, and a multitude of other activities in my role. In the evening, I am a full-time student. At night, I am an entrepreneur as the Owner and Designer of Errica’s Treasures.

I am most proud of standing on my own creativity and the vision I have set for Errica’s Treasures.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to showcase the beauty in my crafts as well as provide a superior customer experience. From my personal to professional, and now as a business owner, I love to ensure my customers, friends, family, and clients are rewarded with superb service by me. From Errica’s Treasures, the experience begins with my website, to customer service down to the packaging of my product. I promise, each customer adores the experience provided. It is one of the reasons why Errica’s Treasures is a luxury jewelry and retail boutique.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Advice I would share with anyone is to simply get started. You do not need your product to be perfect. You simply need to get it going. As you evolve, so will you and your business. It is what makes the journey interesting and worthy of a story to tell as you share your experience with others. I also would advise to believe in what you are doing. As you set forth on your adventure to creating your business, people will deter you from your dream. Don’t listen to them. Many times, it is the business adventures that make the least amount of sense to others that make the most impact in the world. Create your business as a solution to a problem and not to necessarily get rich [quickly] as being an entrepreneur or owning a business is about serving others first before serving yourself. That in itself will yield profits to you unimaginable.

I wish I had a mentor when I started out. It would have helped me to not make as many mistakes but also to help build my confidence as I went through my entrepreneur journey.
