Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Murray.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
This idea was conceived through a wandering yet imaginative mind. I must preface this story by including that my Mom, Sister, and I would often spend Sunday afternoons writing music with the catchiest melodies. We were truly a creative household, and I like to think that the seeds of my imagination were watered and harvested with love. A few years ago, my close friends and I (like the goofballs we were) would make silly songs about our day and things we saw while walking around. I would make the beat and come in with a few verses, another would lay on a few bars, and then seamlessly, we would wrap it all together with a catchy hook that pertained to the topic. It’s almost as if we were a walking Wild N’ Out episode, but we were pretty good, and funny too!
So, after some careful thought, I told my friends, “Guys! What if we created a new genre of music that is literally what we did? We can call it Forty Second Sounds, or 42s for short because that sounds cool and trippy, right?!” Goodness, I don’t think there are words descriptive enough to illustrate their disbelief and utter lack of interest. Ouch. But for those who know me, once I set my mind on something, there’s no stopping me.
So, fast-forwarding through the late-night thinking sessions of how exactly I wanted to undertake this daunting task, I did just that. Today, Forty Second Sounds stands firm and is being pursued with full force. We are in the beginning stages of its’ conception, but I like to think of us as being in a humble phase while the world prepares itself for the imminent revolution of the Music Industry as a whole.
I never would have thought that singing silly songs all of my life would get me to this point. We are standing upon the precipice of change; indeed, as a 21-year old Black female entrepreneur, I really do have the power to manifest my own reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, I have had bumps in the road—it’s Atlanta, for crying out loud. Those potholes will getcha. Seriously though, I’ve struggled with just about any problem a startup could face in our preliminary phase. And because I’m on the younger side of the age spectrum, I’m wasn’t an expert on all of the factors a startup demands before entering our desired market— including legal matters, etc.
Nevertheless, I’ve always had great resources for business advice as well as a supportive family and team that helps me along the way.

Forty Second Sounds creates, curates, and internally composes quality, undiluted sounds featuring content around 40 seconds in length. We are revolutionizing the music industry by creating a basis that values quality over quantity– the music itself over the length of a song- and taking it a step further by coining 42s as its own genre of music.
