Inspiring Conversations with Brittany Parker of One Mean Hair Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Parker.

Hi Brittany, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from a small town in South Oklahoma called Ardmore and as long as I can remember being in the beauty industry it’s something I always wanted to do. Once I graduate high school in 2005 I went off to college for one year. After the first year, I realized college wasn’t for me so I moved to Atlanta in 2007 turned around a year later had to move back home because I became pregnant with my daughter so I need my family’s support.

During that time I was back in Oklahoma, I worked for the tribe of The Chickasaw Nation in the casino industry no matter what title I held I wasn’t happy. After my family moved away I was the only one left and decided I would pack up everything that I owned and move to Shreveport Louisiana where I enrolled in cosmetology school I graduated from Blue Cliff Technical College in 2014 once I graduated I decided to pack everything up and move back to Atlanta.

After moving back to Atlanta finding a job in a call center was the first thing I did but I still wasn’t happy and for some reason, things became a lot harder I lost my job with that company and I had to hustle I started to do makeup at the underground of Atlanta when a nearby cosmetology teacher seen my work and asked me if I would teach the class about makeup and I agreed while doing & teaching makeup I was able to rub shoulders with some of the biggest celebrities and became their own personal make up artist. Because I was a single mother and being a makeup artist required a lot of traveling I had to think of something else to do so that I could be home with my child so I jumped back into hair ……. I noticed that Locs We’re very popular here in Atlanta so I decided to find a salon that Specialized and Locs where I spent 3 1/2 years and was able to learn so many different techniques Take so many classes to where I was able to become a master Loctician!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
You know the saying where it says “nothing worth having comes easy” that is one of the realist statements I’ve ever read. My struggles included homelessness and bad business partners and loss of friends even some family members because they don’t understand your focus and purpose! Entrepreneurship is not all glitz and glam that we see on social media.

As you know, we’re big fans of One Mean Hair Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
