Life and Work with Adrienne Selfe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Selfe.

Adrienne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career in Real Estate after my mother passed away. Shortly after her passing and earning my degree in Speech Pathology from Alabama A&M University, I moved back home with my family in St. Louis, MO. I lost motivation to apply for grad school, but I always had a dream of owning my own Home Interior/Contracting business. I told my dreams to my grandfather and he suggested that I should take classes at Grace Hill Women’s Business Center who offers a program that helps women of color to start their small businesses. I attended the classes and one chapter discussed Real Estate and how all parties included in the transaction needed the Realtor to close the deal. In that same chapter, we started to discuss who would be your targeted market, which was homeowners for my business. That’s when a light bulb when off in my head and I realized that I could cut costs in my business and build my clientele as being a Realtor and incorporate my Home Interior/Contracting Business with my brand. After completing the classes at Grace Hill, I became a Realtor shortly after and became Certified in Interior Staging & Decorating a year later. It has been three years since I have started my career in Real Estate and of course it as it ups and downs, but nothing worth having comes easy.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve come across many struggles in my career, such as not signing with the right Brokerages, not doing the proper research for my business/brand, purchasing outdated marketing material, taking advice from people who haven’t worked for themselves, working with the wrong clients and so much more. My advice to young woman who are just starting their journey is to research the pros and cons of their business, save money, talk to someone who is experienced in their field, stay focus, and remain patient.

Please tell us about Real Estate Professional.
I am a Real Estate Professional who assist buyers and sellers through the home buying/selling process. My personality, passion, enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience sets me apart from the others. I am also proud of my growth as a Realtor. I started off with no clients but when I became more involved with my career and started using the right marketing material, I started to see my clientele grow and now people reach out to me personally to assist them with their Real Estate needs.

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
No matter how many obstacles are thrown at you, always remember why you started your career. Getting started is usually the hardest part and just remind yourself you’re on a journey to success. So trust the process, stay focus, be resilient, and remain patient.
