Life and Work with Cherae Leri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherae Leri.

Cherae, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
“I’m not the kind of artist that can perform something night after night, if I don’t believe in it, or if it’s not true to me or my experience.” Hailing from Houston, Texas now residing in Atlanta, Georgia this young, vibrant songbird is hitting the music scene hard with her own flavor and style. Cherae Leri is a songwriter, dancer, actress and former model. She began her entertainment career at the age of three when she began modeling and acting. Leri has never followed trends, so don’t expect to hear her trying to mimic any.

The music is hers and it’s the kind of sound you want to take with you on a road trip, to the gym, and to the office. Leri has been influenced by some of the more prominent artists like Patti Labelle, Leela James and Erykah Badu, whom she met with her mother, a traveling DJ while attending the Tom Joyner Morning Show at the age of 12. Badu encouraged Leri and her Mother to move to the Houston area, where she also pursued a modeling career. Although her claim to fame might have been through the modeling world, Leri never stopped working on her music. In August 2019 she released her debut EP ‘Conscience’ with her assembled team of musical powerhouses with features from Chino McGregor and Choppa Zoe, Engineering from Randy Lanphear, Ashilee Roberts, Production from The Giants, Kevin Mccall, Nick Fury, Mook Beatz, E9 and Chris Beatz.

Leri tells lyrical accounts of pain, strength, experience, love, triumph and attitude. Bold by nature, does not play coy musically. She puts her heart in each track. Conscience allows listeners to peer into Leri’s soul holding nothing back, giving the best and the worst of her – clearing her Conscience. Top of the year in January Cherae Leri set the tone with releasing “Dedication” inspired and in honor of Nipsey Hussle but also set the standard of how she has paid her dues as a rising artist & continues to stay humble yet demand the respect that is due. In February, Leri is always dedicated to leave the fans with something sexy to seduce their man/woman with as she released her next single “Fine Wine” in which Cherae then announced her upcoming Debut Album “The Pain that Sex Brings” scheduled to be released later this year but has a pre-save link that will allow you to get exclusive songs from the project before it is fully released!

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing worth keeping for longevity will ever be a smooth road. How can it be? Would we really appreciate it if we were just handed everything we wanted? Would we cherish and take care of it and remain humble with humility if it was just as simple as clicking our heels three times closing our eyes and making a wish? NO, to answer this question no, it hasn’t been a smooth road and it still isn’t a smooth road and I doubt it will ever be a smooth road because as long as I elevate and want more or reach for higher dimensions in life to help myself and others around me, I will always face obstacles, roadblocks, speed bumps, and barriers. The question is how will I sustain and keep going!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My brand/business is myself amongst other things but it ultimately is myself, Cherae Leri. I specialize in giving you a feeling you can’t get elsewhere. Many can press copy but pressing paste won’t get you the same results like the original thing! I am proud of my work ethic, determination, and most of all my Dedication.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Being from Houston has always made me feel different and unique from our culture style to our music style and the most amazing part our food! It is nothing like soul cajun style food, I am secretly a foodie but proud of it at the same time! The only negative thing I would say about Houston right now is we have to get our nightlife back together, when I used to live there before moving to Atlanta there was so much to do from college festivities to festivals with the family to a wide variety of nightlife venues! We need to work together and figure a lot out and bring Houston back on the map and charts!
