Life and Work with Danielle Hairston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Hairston.

Danielle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Writing has always been my passion! I discovered it in a high school journalism course. I loved writing featured stories on students, teachers, and faculty.

I thought, for a few years, that I was supposed to be a journalist. But after getting my journalism degree and covering the education beat for a small-town newspaper, I discovered that news was kind of depressing. Instead, like in my high school course, I wanted to write about stories that inspired and excited the masses. I told my editor this one day, and he told me I should have gone into public relations instead. Of course, he was joking — but I took him seriously.

I enrolled to get my masters in PR at Full Sail University. The program was very advanced and focused heavily on the growing digital space. I learned the art of digital content strategy, video promos and more. From there, producing promotional content became my focus. Soon, I realized my clients were very satisfied with what I could do for them in this area.

By this time, Poised Studios has already been conceptualized — but, I’d created it to be a PR firm. I quickly transitioned Poised Studios to focus on copywriting and strategic digital strategy and fell in love with it. I’d finally found my niche!

The rest is history.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sometimes the pressure of supporting other’s dreams and goals can become overwhelming. I literally want to quit my business every six months. Ha! But, what keeps me going is two things:

• An amazing community that uplifts and affirms me.
• The utter satisfaction I get from being a creative.

Any time I start to doubt my abilities and my business, I get a message or phone call from a client, who tells me how much I am changing his or her business for the better. It gives me the motivation I need to keep going. It shows me that I am fulfilling my calling — to inspire and motivate the masses.

What I would recommend any young woman starting out in business is to face their insecurities and fears head-on. It is with your most vulnerable, passionate interests and skills that you can make the most difference in the world.

Likewise, please remember that your ultimate goal in life is to make a difference in the world. Everything — and I mean every little thing — you are doing today is so much bigger than you.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
To be honest, my faith is everything! While I am working, I am listening to faith-based sermons and stories. I follow Sarah Jakes Roberts, Michael Todd, Stephanie Ike and my pastors Heather & Cornelious Lindsey — just to name a few.

One of my main influences in business is Maya Elious, a content marketing specialist who started from the bottom! Her social media page and interviews get me together, as it relates to being a woman in business! I encourage everyone to look her up — not only for her supreme expertise in “mastering your message,” but also for her genuine personality and real advice on doing business in an over-saturated, social media era.
