Life and Work with Deyla Sabio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deyla Sabio.

Deyla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my blog behind the idea of “There is no place like home.” This came clear to me, as I was working at an office downtown in New York City after graduating from college.

The office was filled with people my age and we went out for drinks together frequently. On a particular outing, we were having a discussion about all of the boroughs in New York City. However, I was one of three people in the entire office that lived in The Bronx at the time. So, The Bronx came up in the conversation and it escalated very quickly to nasty comments, such as; The Bronx is dirty, I will never go there, I won’t even dare to breathe in The Bronx, I heard it’s really bad out there. Usually, I am not a huge advocate of The Bronx, but for the first time ever, I wanted to defend The Bronx. My feelings were deeply hurt because the place that I grew up and called home was attacked. After wiping off my tears, I decided to start a blog where I will show people that The Bronx is not as bad as they think. Immediately, that same week of January 2016, I started a blog.

A year later, I found myself at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, hosting an event “The Blogger Social” with over 250 attendees uniting Bronx leaders and creatives to work together for the future of The Bronx. Today, I am working as a counselor for Middle School students with TRIO in The Bronx, inspiring and leading students. Besides work, I find full joy in working on my blog and serving as a leader at Dunamis Deliverance Discipleship Ministries under Pastor Marcel Longhorn located in the South Bronx.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It will be successful without the bumpy obstacles on the road. I struggled at the beginning with consistency in my blog. I have learned to plan ahead. My advice is to do research and ask questions. Be open to failure and struggles, because they simply make you stronger! I promise. It is impossible to give birth without pain and so it is impossible to succeed without failing. Do not give up and keep pushing.

Please tell us about Blogger From The Bronx.
I am a faith and lifestyle blogger. I inspire men and women who are seeking to be the best that they can be! And I also talk a lot about The Bronx and where you can grab your delicious meal with your family. Here in The Bronx, I am most known as an entrepreneur, blogger, educator and a leader in my community.

I am most proud to be a Woman of God and someone that can inspire and motivate others. What sets me apart from others is that I am a fearless woman with a bag full of faith.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Yes, as a little girl; all I knew was The Bronx and today, I am very proud of that.
