Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Myers.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I checked my e-mail, and still, there was no response from the producer at NBC. I’d only submitted my 10th application to intern, while only in the 9th grade. I knew at a young age, I wanted to be involved with the most influential medium I’d been exposed to. I knew that TV had the power to shift a paradigm and public opinion, and even then, I wanted to have a say. I wanted to change the narrative and show more positive images to allow my community to live a more impactful, meaningful life. Thankfully, by the time I turned 17, I found the Emma L. Bowen Foundation, a media company dedicated to funneling minorities into media, through an intensive internship program that follows students from high school, all the way through college. I graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelors in Journalism, and that’s where I began to climb the media ladder at CBS Television Station in New York.
I made it all the way to the Nick Cannon Morning Show with CBS Radio in NY by the age of 22. I was at the height of my career, yet, after meeting so many celebrities through the show, I felt hollow inside. I would often talk with my dad as I searched for meaning, as I felt my social media posts were very shallow as I posted with Celebrity after celebrity, and it wasn’t until my dad said, “What if you’re ladder is on the wrong wall.” Dumbfounded, I’d searched my whole life for career success, only to realize true success was fulfillment in one’s self.
I began on a journey of self-discovery and meaning, and when a friend invited me to a Les Brown Conference back in Atlanta, I jumped at the opportunity. Through the conference, I was exposed to a life of building your dreams, owning your time, and building a life on my terms, and I could do that through Real Estate Investing.
I signed up for the full course in December 2015, by February 2016, I took the leap of faith and purchased my first four houses through a mentor I’d found. I learned so much in the transaction of those first four homes!!!!!!! From loosing $11,000 in my first deal, having a contractor selling drugs out of my home, and dealing with a property not selling. I was so low, I wanted to quit. Thankfully, I was still working full-time, and I could have quit, but my husband encouraged me that I can do this. He told me he was here to support me and propel me forward no matter what, and that gave me just the courage I needed to keep going.
Thankfully, I was able to partner with a classmate from Georgia State, who was into construction management, and together we formed JAG Holdings Group (Jessica And Greg). Together, we’ve transacted millions of dollars in Real Estate deals. To date, we use that experience to teach others how to avoid the pitfalls we’ve encountered.
Through JAG Holdings Group, LLC, I’m now able to live the life of my dreams, travel the world and build entrepreneurs and empower them for success.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s crazy, I’ve transacted over $2.5 Million dollars in Real Estate, with dozens of homes I’ve revitalized, and of them, not ONE has been smooth. With all the knowledge in the world, life happens. I was most disappointed when I paid a contractor $30,000 cash and rather than complete my project, I came back from vacation only to find he was using my home to sell and transact drugs.
One of the biggest struggles, in the beginning, was finding a trusted team. I took for granted working in the corporate structure and having someone else screen the people we’d work with. There was a code of ethics, but as an entrepreneur, you have to use your intuition/discernment and pray about each deal before moving forward.
My advice for women is to expect the unexpected. When things go “wrong,” understand what life is trying to show you. There’s a lesson in everything. One of the most impactful books that I’ve read is the Alchemist and it teaches that the journey is the lesson. It’s helped me to appreciate the good and the bad and stay in gratitude for it all.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I can sometimes lead to my heart, in this cut-throat industry. I’m a firm believer that who you are being, doesn’t get to determine who I get to be. But there are times, where I tend to be compassionate, and it may not serve in this industry. I love to lead with heart, but at times, I need to be more stern to compete with my male counterparts.
We have to overcome the hurdle of having heart and getting the job done, no matter what we’re up against.
