Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamaiya Fleming.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kamaiya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Though the idea of AK Closings kind of happened overnight, from the moment Allison and I became friends, we always said we wanted to help people in a big way and make a living while doing so. We didn’t know how we were going to make it happen but we were always determined to be successful. Seven years ago, we both started off in the restaurant industry, opening one up in Buckhead and becoming store trainers together. From there, we followed each other from one restaurant gig to the next, until one day we made a promise to ourselves that this particular restaurant was the last one we were going to work in. Both of us were ready for something bigger and wanted to create something of our own. We started off going to real estate school and received our license for the state of Georgia. From there, we became Operations Managers for two very successful teams at Keller Williams Intown Atlanta. It was through our individual roles where we gained a great deal of knowledge and experience and we were inspired to venture out and start our own contract to close business together. Thus, AK (Allison/Kamaiya) Closings was born.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an entrepreneur takes guts and it definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. Every journey has its obstacles and I’d say the biggest one I’ve encountered, in almost a year of being in business for myself, is dealing with the slow season. The world of Real Estate involves a ton of ebb and flow. It’s nerve-racking when although you feel like you’re working non-stop, nothing seems to really be happening. Then, out of nowhere, you see your hard work begin to pay off and business is coming in left and right. My advice for other young women who have their own business or are thinking of starting one is to KEEP GOING! If you are brave enough to start, nothing should get in your way. I think the hardest part is starting.
Please tell us about AK Closings.
AK Closings is a contract to close company. What does this mean exactly? Well, we are a company that Realtors outsource to, in order to handle all of the paperwork involved in a sale or purchase. It’s important for Realtors to have a company like us to rely on, allowing them to focus more on generating new business and not the day to days tasks of any one contract. We not only specialize in contract to close but also listing input services, too! Thanks to our loyal clients, we are known for being quick and efficient at what we do. We pride ourselves in being able to adapt to each client’s personal needs and we are always finding new ways to make sure our service remains top notch. I’d say what sets AK Closings apart from other companies is that we are willing to go over and beyond for our clients. There are services we’ve recently added on, simply because we’ve seen there has been a need for it. For example, we are now offering to stand-in for our clients at their closing(s), should something come up and they aren’t able to attend. We’ve also held training classes for Realtors who have assistants that need to learn the contract to close business. It’s important for us to make sure our clients feel like we have their back. I believe that realizing there is a need and fulfilling it is the key to our success in this business.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
For all of the women out there just starting a career, my best advice is to remain hungry, humble, and have fun! Don’t allow yourself to ever get to a point where you are complacent. I feel as though in order to be the best at what you do, you have to continually be discovering new ways to perfect your craft. Also, don’t limit yourself to just one venture. Once you have mastered one art, find another and pour into that one! I strongly believe in creating multiple streams of income. That being said, ladies, please remain humble throughout your journey. There will be times when you feel on top of the world because everything seems to be going your way. (This is the part where you have fun!) Bask in these moments and treat yourself, you will deserve it! However, where there are ups, there are also downs. Don’t get discouraged during these times and remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. If you truly believe in yourself, no obstacle or low point will be able to hinder you from achieving your dreams.
