Life & Work with Brandon Ramsay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Ramsay.

Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, my journey started about five years ago. I started out taking photos on my phone every day. My older cousins Nick & Jon were my inspirations that made me fall in love with photography. Since that day I just took any chance to improve my work. One Christmas my mother got me a camera, a Canon PowerShot sx530 hs. It was a compact camera that was good for me starting out learning the basics.

Fast forward to 2019 I started to think to myself what if I could turn my hobby into my passion, I just graduated and had a job where I can save up to fund my dreams. But not everything goes as planned and that’s when the pandemic came which resulted in me losing my job in 2021. That gave me the motivation I didn’t know I needed. With that mindset, I saved up to buy the camera (Sony a6400) I have now and I devoted my attention to bettering my craft and helping anyone capture their vision. Through this journey, I have learned a lot not only about myself but the business side of everything. I’m still learning and will forever be open to anything that will help me further my skill and knowledge.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It haven’t been a smooth road but through this path, I’ve grown from the struggles faced. Either dealing with clients, finding new clients, also keeping up with my social media as well since this is a competitive environment for photographers. Also dealing with self-doubt of failing or either hearing it from others. But regardless of it all I rather push through than not follow my dreams.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in photography. I’m most proud of my progress throughout the years I’ve been taking photos. Each and every time I shoot either for fun or for any collaboration work I find better ways to conduct myself or improve on the way I shoot. It’s hard to explain but I’ll say my quality of work is what sets me apart from everyone else. I’m humble enough to know I’m not better than the next because that in itself is subjective, I just know that I’m different with my style.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was more of an introvert and found it hard to open up to others. But when I got older and started to meet new people I started to shift in an extroverted state which wasn’t always easy. Personality-wise I’ll say I’m a chill and goofy type of person. I’ll rather see a smile and genuine reaction when I meet or talk to anyone never aimed to make anyone uneasy but comfortable as if we knew one another. My interest now is just photography honestly, that’s my escape and peace away from the world. It helps me decompress and focus.
