Life & Work with Caleb Harmon-Marshall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Harmon-Marshall (Harmony).

Hi Caleb, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My social media career started by accident. I worked security at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, the busiest airport in the world. So many people travel through daily, and you have to repeat the same advisements over and over again. On this particular day, I was over it! So on my break, I went on TikTok and ranted about what you can and can’t bring through the airport.

I thought nothing much of it after I posted it because I was getting practically no views on TikTok. The very next morning, my phone was going off. I thought someone had died! Fortunately, that wasn’t the case. My video went viral! Over 500k views and thousands of likes. I was shocked. I started reading the comments, and everyone was asking questions and seeking advice. At that moment, it hit me! I changed my entire image on TikTok because initially, I was posting videos of me singing. I changed it to fit all things airport and travel.

It’ll be a full year in July 2022 since I started. I’m now at over 130k followers, a brand ambassador for multiple travel brands, a content producer for Travel Noire & The Points Guy, and founder of Gate Access, a platform where the traveling public will be able to go to read decoded terms & conditions regarding airlines & security.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s been difficult because, with all my success, I’ve been fighting to keep it up. I’m the first in my agency to reach such heights independently on social media. I’ve had to delete videos and switch up terminology so many times to produce this type of content so that it doesn’t go against any guidelines I have to abide by.

If you watch my content, it’s very well thought out. I’m extremely particular with the type of verbiage I use.

Even with all of that, I continue to run into issues. I honestly feel like they don’t know how to handle this because they’ve never had to. When this all started, I saw it as a pathway to the social media department. That just never happened.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I help passengers get through airport security as well as help them understand airline terms.

Ask yourself, do you read the terms and conditions when you book a flight? Do you know all of your rights as a passenger? The answer is probably no. So I’m here to share with you your rights and more!

What matters most to you? Why?
I love people. I love helping. I never fully felt valued by my agency. I’ve always felt that if I were to leave, they’d just replace me with the next person.

Because of this newfound love for social media, I now feel valued. People care and want to hear my thoughts on topics. People want my advice and reach out to me when they need help. They thank me every day and show me so much love. They come to the airport I’m stationed at just to meet me in person.

It has genuinely made a job I once hated, something I now love. Being able to help people travel with ease, especially parents who travel with children, is why I do it. This is supposed to be a fun experience, not a dreadful one.
