Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Morisseau and Diane Gordon. Them and their team share their story with us below:
A mother (Diane) and daughter (Lindsay) team, they have always loved designing spaces together and making homes beautiful. Growing up, the family moved often, and Diane would always work tirelessly to create colorful, cozy places for them to enjoy. When Lindsay went off to college, she and Diane not only designed her dorm room, but several of her friends’ rooms, as well, and this continued into post-college apartments, houses, etc. After school, design was always a passion project that the two of them would collaborate on when they had the chance. Enter the pandemic. After being asked for help by several friends and neighbors, who had been spending more time than ever before at home and realizing they wanted to make changes, Lindsay and Diane noticed there was a unique demand, so they both decided to transition into working in design full-time – and thus, The Happy Home ATL began.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With the pandemic, it has been a real challenge working with the supply chain and all of the current delays. We have clients that order a couch that says 2-week shipping but shows up 6 months later. For a while, it was also challenging shopping in person (which we really prefer), but we’re happy that we’re able to do that more now. We especially love going to local shops like Kudzu and Highland Row and finding the perfect unique items for our client’s spaces.
Another challenging aspect of our job (but one that we love!) is adapting to the specific style and taste of each client and finding a way to blend it with our own design aesthetic.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a unique service that allows clients to pay a flat fee for a design, and we will stay on board throughout the full process, sourcing unique items (new or vintage), re-purposing items that the client already has and loves, and putting together a beautiful space that meets the client’s goals.
We design and advise on spaces big to small, from creating the perfect front porch or entryway to a full multi-room overhaul. We have a network of contractors, painters, and more, that we work with and offer our client’s a special discount. We love teaming up with local businesses (like Lush Plants in Decatur, for example) and supporting each other!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Despite working together 5 days/week (and sometimes more) – Lindsay and Diane have yet to disagree about a design!
