Life & Work with Tarva McIntosh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tarva McIntosh.

Hi Tarva, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Even though I have a marketing and psychology degree, owning a business has always been a dream of mine. I have always been an artsy person who loves art, decorating and traveling. Due to being a military spouse with children and moving frequently, I never felt the time was right to pursue starting my own business. In 2021, I felt the time was right to get started after several dreams with a recurring “Luxurious” something theme urge.

So, one morning I got up, got dressed, not knowing where I was going and was led to a craft store and a home improvement store where I purchased items. Once I got home, I had no idea what I was doing? I cleared off the kitchen table and began to prep for something. I began making ceramic coasters with my spin on different design techniques to give the coaster a decorative look. My husband and daughters came home that evening, walked over, and said these coasters are nice! They were so amazed, they decided to pick what they wanted to take to the office. The LOVE and BLESSED SUPPORT from my family has always been so great and with them being a major inspiration for me to start my business. Additionally, I shared with my parents, brother, son, in-laws, and a host of friends, and they enjoyed my products as well. I thank them all for the love and support.

With added confirmation and more experience, I started developing and adding an array of other items, such as my designed canvas wall art, candles, room sprays, charcuterie boards, and much more. I’m so enthusiastic, about what I have been designing. It feels right to be able to design something with my own two hands along with providing clients with often customized products they truly love. This passionate gift God has given me brings me joy and I hope it brings happiness to you!

I love adding different elements to accessorize any area of the home and my decor can be placed in all spaces! This is how Luxurious Elements Company began.

I will say, I am my own worst critic, what I mean by this is and as I state on my website, I have a lot of pride and like my work to be perfect, if I have fallen short of my expectations, I will kindly let you know and start over. I am a firm believer; customer service is the key to a successful business!

I give all praises to God for the gifts He has given me, I would not be able to do what I do without Him.

Add Luxurious Elements to any space!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges in the beginning was with sales where I really started to doubt myself due to a low number of orders. It was starting to get me down but quickly realized there are going to be ups and downs and I decided to stay persistent, not give up, understand what I could do better, prayed a lot solicited help and business certainly picked up.

At one point it was challenging to overcome supply chain hurdles with receiving materials from different companies timely especially during COVID. Doing research is the key to finding what businesses can supply what you need to make the business better.

In the beginning, there was a challenge trying to find a graphic designer to make a logo that I wanted that would represent what my company stands for. It took some time and I finally found what I was looking for.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner of Luxurious Elements Company. LLC. I create luxury home decor accessories to add to your beautiful space. Items I specialize in would be my high-end coasters, wall art, room sprays, charcuterie boards, trays and more. I am known for, how I apply my own twist and techniques along with the love that goes into each item. I am also known for always trying something new to see if it will work. I love a challenge. This sets me apart from others along with having great customer service and making sure every detail is on point. I also have a customer contact form on my website if there are questions or concerns about their order, I also do consultations to make sure the colors are what the customer is requesting.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
As far as networking, I made quite a few connections at pop-ups with different businesses. I like to talk; I feel if you do not make connections then why stay in business. Get out there and communicate, you never know where it may lead you. I also have to give it up to my husband, two daughters and son, they are some good mentors as well, they would say do research, find books that will help with my business. I must thank my oldest daughter Kenya McIntosh for referring me for  hidden gems inspiring stories for Voyage ATL. Kenya, words cannot explain how this made me feel. You put me on top of the world! Thank you for all you have done.
