Today we’d like to introduce you to Abbie Knights.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Spain, spent my childhood traveling back and forth, attending school in both countries. For as long as I can remember, having a creative outlet was always an important aspect of my life and how I expressed myself. I started drawing and sketching when I was six years old… as the years passed, I went on to dance, did gymnastics, ran track overseas, and played soccer. Musically, I played the violin and piano and sang as well. In the midst of all of that, I discovered a great passion for photography and design… which remained an exciting part of my life into adulthood. As a teenager, the goal was to become a singer, signed to a record label, though I came close, I unfortunately had a bad manager in my corner, who chose to reject the record deal offers I had out of greed, without letting me know. As hard as it was to accept that, I continued with my creative passions. Went on to work in the film business, earning on-screen credits, for movies such as: Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, found my way back to photography, where I eventually started my own business, Kimani Media Group and decided to work on developing a clothing line with a positive message… 10 years later, we’re here. Deion Numen isn’t just a line, it’s about a message and a lifestyle.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like nothing worth having in life comes easy. Like anything else, it requires commitment, focus and dedication. I’ve dealt with an incredible amount of obstacles, self-doubt, rejection from some of the best in the business, but at the end of the day, I had to find a way to quiet the noise, regroup and focus, on the things that mattered most. So many of us get so caught up living day to day, locked into our routines, that we start to exist and forget the importance of truly living. In those moments, I always found great inspiration. It’s so important to believe in yourself and vision wholeheartedly, after all, every great success story, started with one great idea.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Deion Numen – what should we know?
Kimani Media Group, my photography company, has allowed me to express myself through a lens, to photograph some amazing people and capture some really incredible moments. It also allowed me the opportunity to become digitally published and meet and work with truly remarkable people like Lily Abdelmalek of DSA Training, who has so much humility and heart, arguably, one of the best in her field. Working with her has allowed me to explore new creative lanes. I’m beyond thankful, not just for the opportunity she’s given me but also, for trusting me to capture some of those moments, showcasing what she does best. In an industry so heavily dominated by males, it’s incredibly inspiring to see a woman excelling at her level. I feel so blessed to be able to experience moments like that. Which brings me to my “baby” (as they say)… I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, I’ve always been very spiritually driven. Ten years ago, I made the decision to create a brand that would embody an uplifting message. As humans, it’s so important to remember to be kind to one another, to spread love and positivity, it can go such a long way… it’s about embracing the beauty in everyone, at the end of the day, we are HUMAN. So much went into trying to create something meaningful, to make this line special for everyone. Deion (meaning ”God”) Numen (meaning “divine presence”), will be released at the end of April 2020. Creatively, Deion Numen is by far what I’m most proud of.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
In my opinion, Integrity should always be the most important characteristic in life and success.
