Today we’d like to introduce you to Adebukunola Adeniyi.
Adebukunola, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA but grew up in a Nigerian (Yoruba) household with my hardworking, God-fearing, no nonsense mother lol but most importantly she was a woman of great fashion sense. From the vintage jackets to the berets she would slay in, how could I not follow in her footsteps.
A lot of times I would play in her closet and wear her clothes, shoes, sunglasses and she always had some bomb a** jewelry, till this day I still have some of her clothes she wore back in the day because of how trendy they are. I always use to love watching my mother get ready for an event because there was so much thought put into everything she would wear, this helped build my own fashion sense that I have today.
It took me awhile honestly to become the woman I am today due to my insecurities and shyness plus I was dark skin, had acne, was Nigerian and I had the longest name ever that I didn’t even mind if people mispronounced it. These insecurities honestly held me back from a lot but then I met my best friend Jessica (going on a decade friendship now) and I remember us speaking about my insecurities and man she spoke so much positivity into me that day! This started my journey of the woman I am becoming.
My mother has always encouraged me to do what I love but to have my education first. I received my BS in Sociology and then my masters in Business Administration, I knew that no matter what I should be someone who was educated and filled with knowledge. This helped fuel me to want to learn more and be a force to reckon with.
I finally start to put my insecurities behind me and started to step into the woman that I knew I wanted to be. I taught myself how to do my own hair, do you remember the flat twist with the high bun look? Yes! that was my go to lol. I then moved on to clothing, graduated to an all-around stylist and ultimately I found my passion to be statement earrings. I noticed how much they could make an outfit pop and finally, ADE Beauty Collection was created, a sure empire in the near future!
I wanted my business to be a business that exudes beauty and confidence, to continuously add value to all who shop with me and that all of us have a crown of our own, hence the word ADE. I knew that starting this business would be a start to show that I for one have something that could add the glitz and glamour to one’s outfit of the day.
My dream was to always be my own boss and finally, that dream has come into fruition!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, and I blame myself honestly, I truly was my own enemy. To my constant procrastination, to me thinking that no one would even take a look at the business I created but I know with every success story there is trial and error. I created my business in 2016 and back then I was selling hair due to me knowing how to braid, crochet, make wigs, etc. I thought why not make this a business. I should have took more time to plan things out because in my head I thought it would be easy to do but it was not.
I sold hair for a couple of months and noticed that it just was not for me and instead of me to brainstorm something else to continue with I did nothing for two years and left my business as it was. People would ask me about it and I just kept saying that I was revamping it and it was coming soon but it never did till 2019. 2019 is definitely a year of growth for me because I stopped procrastinating and started doing my research, started asking questions from my fellow entrepreneurs and stopped doubting myself! I finally got my logo revamped and sailed off from there, I have to say, I am so proud of myself! It’s not easy but I would have it no other way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with ADE Beauty Collection – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
ADE Beauty Collection, which derives from my first and last name, stands for Crown. I added in the Beauty Collection because of what I plan for my brand to incorporate, all things that add to our beauty and style. Currently, on my site I sell unique earrings, earrings you don’t normally see in stores or online stores and that was my goal. I like the fact that it is different and stands out from the rest. It won’t stop there however, I plan to expand and provide so much more unique items! My business is based on my own love of fashion and I plan to bring it all to life! My earrings are just the start but there is so much more in store, all pun intended!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about Atlanta is the scenery and the many hidden gems. If you drive around Atlanta you see so many artworks on buildings, the artistic figures placed in various locations and at night OMG! Atlanta is surely a site to see. What I like least about Atlanta is the traffic! It’s ridiculous at times and once you finally bypass the traffic you always wonder what or who was causing it lol.
