Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Thurber.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I Painted and sold Glass blocks for 10 years, to galleries, retail, and custom orders world-wide. Freezing is a natural transition for me. Freezing is a cumulation of a lifelong study and work in visual arts, I’ve done a little of many things, this is a cumulation of many of my favorite things. Botanicals, color, its sculptural and leaves me with just my files for storage. I’m truly so thankful to be doing what I do, and really can’t believe this is how my story is ending up. It was scary to commit to ‘freezing’, I’m happy I’ve stuck with it.
Please tell us about your art.
Really it is a lifelong study and fascination with Transparency, translucency, and opaque. How they overlay, overlap, play in space with shape and color. My particular process happens to include my love of everything out of doors. It romanticizes the botanicals that surround us when we chose to see, and places them in an environment we never see in daily life. Literally a moment frozen in time, in ice. The two concepts make no sense together, but in an image create a beauty we can only imagine, until now.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Keep working, every day, do everything and anything you can related, fine tune your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing those helps tremendously. Don’t give up. And when you compare use it as a challenge, not as an excuse to be defeated. If you are truly an artist that’s the way it will go, you can’t do differently…. I’m 56 forty years later, it all makes sense.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
tell your friends, show your family, I’ve been perfecting my process, wanting to be an authority on it before I truly show it. I’m now freezing flowers for weddings and events. Instead of carrying around your old bouquet brides can have me freeze them and make them into a piece of art they have forever. I have a website but am truly at the kick-off of my career. (At the end of my career :)) Of course there is always Instagram!
