Today we’d like to introduce you to Annalise Hartwell.
Hi Annalise, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hartwood began unusually – in the middle of a global pandemic. In June 2020, a new stream of creativity overflowed in this new cabin-fever filled environment. We began with handmade cards, added stickers, and merged ourselves into the wedding industry creating unique invitations for dozens of brides. Dried floral arrangements made their way into our business during the Christmas season, and now we spend most of our time creating arrangements for weddings, showers, or for an elegant touch in homes. We are currently sold in The Gibson Co. in Cumming, GA and sell online on Etsy as well as our own website.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not – Hartwood has organically grown into what it is today. That means self-funding and being my own accountant, social media manager, creative designer, and all the other roles that play into business ownership. It has been incredibly fun, busy, fulfilling, everything good. But it’s also been full of risks, creative blocks, and uncertainty. There’s never a mountain view without a climb!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Being based in North Georgia, there isn’t a huge population of small business owners. We really pride ourselves in the amazing connections we’ve made and feel such gratitude to be a part of such a tight-knit community.
We feel like we stand out by offering affordable and unique products. Creating designs for cards and stickers has been an amazing creative outlet. And of course, arranging floral bouquets creates a whole unique product every time. We’re extremely proud of the growth into the wedding industry we’ve done, how transparent we are as a brand, how genuine our connections with our customers are.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’ve done this all as a working mom! I have two amazing daughters, one I just had late July. I definitely like to keep myself busy and motherhood has taught me values that I’ve carried over into my brand.
