Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Strickland.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had an appreciation for photography. The ability to literally freeze time is such a gift. To tell a story through an image is a skill I’ve admired for as long as I can remember.
I’ve always been the self appointed historian for my family. Constantly capturing memories of family events and everyday life. One day, my husband suggested I look into photography because, “You always have that camera out”. After his nudging, I took a couple classes and signed up for a workshop by my favorite professional photographer and that was all she wrote.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m a self taught photographer, so I learned as I went along and experimented until I found my style. I’m still learning. I’ll always be in learning mode. I don’t think one can ever stop. Balance has been the biggest struggle for me. I’m a wife and mom of 3 and learning to juggle everything gracefully has been an interesting journey to say the least.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ashley Nicole Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in weddings and lifestyle portraits. I love the fact that my work is someone’s first family treasure. It’s an honor to document the lives and love stories of my clients. I don’t take it lightly by any means.
I’m most proud of the relationships I build with my clients and the way that I take care of them. I’m more than their photographer, I become a trusted friend and that means everything to me.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My friends and family are my biggest cheerleaders and I’m so thankful for them. If it wasn’t for my husband, I would have never realized just how much passion I had for photography. Not only did he put the bug in my ear but he bought my first professional camera. He along with my Mom and countless other friends and family have really inspired and supported me. I’m a blessed girl. My village rocks!
I am a proud member of The Queen Photographers, a phenomenal organization that supports female photographers of color. The community is amazing! They have really helped fuel the fire that I have and I’ve met so many inspiring women and learned so much for their programs and initiatives.
