Meet Benjamin Goldman of Kibbee Gallery in Poncey Highlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Goldman.

Kibbee Gallery is located in a small house in the Poncey Highlands area of Atlanta, GA. Kibbee focuses on emerging and mid-range contemporary artists from the Atlanta area. The gallery was formed in 2009 by Preston Snyder and Ben Goldman, Kibbee has shown many of Atlanta’s top new and established artists. Gallery Director Ben Goldman mixes emerging and established artists in shows as a way to create vibrant shows and to help grow Atlanta’s art scene.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing is easy in the Arts but helping the art community in Atlanta grow is worth the hard work. There are many very talented artists in Atlanta and the surrounding areas that need a space to show their works. The struggle isn’t in finding the art, it is in finding the audience. Atlanta has a vibrant art scene but it desperately needs to bring more viewers to the Arts. The challenge is how to reach all the people who are not already in the art scene and get them to come to art shows. Gallery art shows are free and are great way to discover local artists. My main struggle is in broadening the audience and letting people know that art shows are fun, interesting and enriching experiences.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kibbee Gallery story. Tell us more about the business.
Kibbee Gallery features art by new and mid ranged artists. The gallery space is a small house. This familiar environment creates an inviting atmosphere to see art. I show different artists every month so there is always something new to see. I include many new artists in our shows. Many other galleries will not work with these new talents. Kibbee Gallery is a venue to help new artists enter the scene, as well as give opportunities to mid-range artists.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not consider luck a factor. Hard work and a focused effort are what has played the most important part. A small group of fellow artists and art lovers have worked hard with me to create the shows at Kibbee Gallery.
