Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Sanders.
Benjamin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts in 2004 when I decided to start a t-shirt line. The name was Moharsan Clothing Co. I took parts of my then one-year-old daughter’s name and created the name. The idea was to create something that she could have later down the line and to build a legacy. A year later, I moved to Atlanta and attempted to keep the company rolling, but I wasn’t ready. It was not a failure, but instead a lesson. Fast forward to 2013 – I got hurt on my job and had to have back surgery. As I was recovering, I had a lot of time to think. I knew that it was time for a change.
June 2014, I relaunched the company and have poured everything that I have into the business. I purchased my own printing equipment, and over the next couple of years I printed apparel for my brand and other people. After working a full-time job and making shirts for my brand and others, I quit my job, took the leap and decided to print shirts full time in 2017. I worked from home for two years and then in August of 2019, I opened Dreamerz Printing Plus – a brick and mortar store.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road! When the store first opened, people didn’t know that the store existed. The majority of the business I had was from previous customers. The fall showed some signs of progress, but the winter was brutal. The doors rarely had customers coming through them, but the bills kept coming. I remember calling my landlords in November to let them know I needed to break my lease and close the store. I was devastated, but God had other plans. January and February were still tough. Business here and there but nothing steady. I borrowed money from friends just to stay afloat. I sold my house in March and then COVID hit. I did everything that I could do to keep the store open. I prayed A LOT. I continued to work hard, be faithful, and deliver quality to my customers. Through referrals and word of mouth, my business took off!
Dreamerz Printing Plus – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We offer custom printing services: clothing, masks, banners and decals. We specialize in printing for brands. We are known for our great quality of work and exceptional attention to detail. What sets us apart is we treat each project like our own. We offer “Chick-Fil-A” type customer service! We go above and beyond to provide great service and a great product to our customers. Most of all, we love what we do!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of my customers was picking up his order and another customer who had never been here walked in. The new customer said they needed shirts printed. The older customer said “if you want dope shirts, you are in the right place!” The new customer placed their order right there on the spot! Both customers are still rockin’ with us today. I am proud that people love our work enough to come back over and over again, and even prouder that they tell their people to come see us.
