Meet Bob Herndon of Atlanta BBQ Festival

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bob Herndon.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Atlanta BBQ Festival is the only sanctioned BBQ Contest in the City of Atlanta. We have won top 10 Festival from USA Today. We draw approx 12-15000 per year and are in our 8th year. Atlanta’s 7th Annual BAR-B-Q Festival Atlantic Station, Special Event Lot @ 20th St.

Come enjoy two days of family fun and entertainment accompanied by some of the most delicious BAR-B-Q you’ve ever tasted! The festival is billed as a leading southern regional BAR-B-Q event and is sure to again draw the best BAR-B-Q masters in the area. Food will take center stage and will be accompanied by live music, kids activities, and both professional and back-yard BAR-B-Q competitions. The festival experienced continued growth in 2014 with attendance approaching 15,000 who enjoyed two days of food and fun!

The Atlanta BAR-B-Q Festival provides a unique opportunity for your company or brand to interact with a passionate and diverse attendee base. You will have quality time to spend with approximately 15,000 consumers in a relaxed and open atmosphere, and at a price that fits your budget. Attendees from metro Atlanta and across Georgia will be ready to listen to your message, try your product, learn about your services and “live” your brand. It’s a flavorful, fun and friendly festival, and a chance for your business to “meat” new customers!

The Atlanta BAR-B-Q Festival has a strong, multi-platform promotional plan in place to drive attendance and deliver added-value to sponsors. Here are some details:

• print, radio, and TV promotional schedules
• Atlantic Station signage visible to I-75/85 HWY will promote festival (approximately 100K impressions per day)
• social media campaigns through the festival and the Atlanta BAR-B-Q Club will reach thousands
• strong cross-promotional relationships with key community groups
• website exposure (over 41,000 unique visitors during May-Aug time period)

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
First year was very hard… we ran out of BBQ and Drinks….all we had left was diet cokes and we had to close an hour early.

Atlanta BBQ Festival – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Atlanta BBQ festival brings the community of Atlanta together across racial lines. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, ” I have a dream that one day the sons of slaves and the sons of slaveholders will sit down and dine at the table of brotherhood”, and at that table, we are serving some of the finest BBQ in the south!!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Every time we have a festival, I see thousands of people of all colors hanging out and having a great time!
