Today we’d like to introduce you to Breontaé Williams.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Art is just something that I’ve always done. I’ve been drawing since I was a child. But it took me a long time to decide to pursue art. I was obsessed with making sure I picked the “right” career when I was younger, so I kept switching majors in college. However, I always found myself coming back to art. It’s something I’ve always lived and breathed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! I went through a tremendous amount of internal struggles with anxiety. I’m quite sure my family wasn’t pleased with my decision to pursue art in the beginning either, so I had to deal with that as well. I’ve also had to maintain a full-time job over the past two years while going to college. But overall, the struggle has been worth it so far.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I specialize in oil painting, traditional illustration, and water media. Recently, I’ve been building structures to enhance my paintings. I wouldn’t say I specialize in the installation, but it seems to be a road I’m traveling down. I’m most proud of finally being able to loosen up and paint with more feeling, versus seeking absolute perfection in every piece. Being able to see from all sides of the spectrum tends to set me apart from others.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Obtaining my BFA in drawing and painting.
