Meet Brookhaven Photographer: Lance Palmer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lance Palmer.

Lance, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had an interest in photography, however, was focused on a music career as a singer/songwriter. After leaving my record label in 2008 I began creating TV shows. For that reason, I bought a DSLR camera to shoot video with the idea that I could also take some fun photos. As a self-taught photographer, I was doing okay, but I decided to take a six-week photography course in Florida. After that, I was hooked. I began shooting anything and everything, everywhere. The images I captured on my trip to Cuba last year really seemed to gain the most attention and by far are my personal favorite photos. I plan to travel to more third world countries in the future but for now, I’m shooting actors headshots and musicians. A recent headshot I took was just published in Forbes Magazine and I also photographed Atlanta native Scott Wilson. Scott is a legendary actor most famous for his character “Hershel” on The Walking Dead.

Has it been a smooth road?
I think the biggest challenge photographers face these days is for some reason a lot of people expect photos for free. My response is if you need a mechanic to fix your car, would expect him to work for free? That is definitely my biggest challenge.

Have you ever felt like giving up?
I have been an artist in the entertainment biz for 25 years. Yes, I have been greatly challenged, tested and discouraged, wanting to quit many times however it will not quit me. I am a man possessed! As an artist remaining true to myself I always continue to do what I love no matter what the price or consequence. It’s a constant state of highs and lows and stability can be difficult to maintain but it makes me feel alive.

What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
If God gives you a gift you are responsible for it. Recognize it and believe in yourself with undeniable conviction. Be brave enough to follow your passion and it will take you on a journey unlike no other. Focus and work harder than everyone else. If it’s your true passion, it won’t even feel like work. Confucius said “Do What You Love And You Will Never Work A Day In Your Life”

Is there something you are particularly excited about or working towards?
We have entered an era of extremely high demand for digital media and content. There has been no better time in history to be a creator and photographer. For me as an artist, there is no separation between self and work. When your job is the work created from your soul, it’s very personal, therefore I’m very excited to have limitless opportunities to share my work/self with the world.

  • I’m flexible and will always work with people’s budget. Especially other artists like musicians and actors. Most of my shoots, however, begin at $200.
  • $200 includes 2 looks and 2 fully edited images. Each edited Image after that is $25.
