Meet Bryttani and Sebastian Graddick of HeartWear Jewelry in Macon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryttani and Sebastian Graddick.

Bryttani and Sebastian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi! I’m Bryttani, creator of HeartWear Jewelry. The inspiration behind this business came from a very specific need. Growing up as a child with sensitive skin and non-pierced ears, the latest fashion jewelry trends weren’t always an option for me. Fast-forward to my college years, entering into the workforce, and now as a mother myself, my girls also have sensitive skin and options for them will also be limited.

I have fond memories of shopping for jewelry with my mom and sister, my comrades in the “non-pierced ears club,” and we’d find nice earrings from select boutiques, only for them to not have lasting stock. From that point, I became the designated earring converter between the three of us. They’d find a nice pair of earrings meant for pierced ears and I’d convert them for us to wear.

From that need grew a love of designing necklaces and bracelets to meet a particular style. I enjoy getting to the heart of what a person likes for themselves and others, creating a product, and seeing the reaction of a job well done. After learning more about the construction of fashion jewelry and after making jewelry as Christmas gifts, I found that not only was designing jewelry therapeutic for me but that people liked receiving handmade gifts made with them in mind.

As a business professional working in the human resources field for 10+ years, I understand the importance of putting your best foot forward when it comes to your work. It is my opinion that when you feel that you look great, you really do look great and when you feel that way about yourself, you can do great things!

At the encouragement of my husband, we took a leap of faith and registered the business in January 2020. We’ve been steadily growing this handmade business ever since. We started HeartWear Jewelry to design custom jewelry for women who want to look their best, who dare to be unique, who deserve to feel their best, and who don’t have to break the bank to do it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’re less than a year in so far, and from the beginning, we’ve viewed this first year of business as a one of learning and building. Startup costs for materials and supplies and building brand awareness were known issues that we’d have to overcome. But one thing that no one could account for was the impact of COVID-19. In some ways, it’s been a pro and a con.

A handful of out-of-the-area orders and supplies from vendors were delayed beyond normal shipping times, so, of course, that could potentially reflect in a negative way in terms of customer service. However, it has allowed us the opportunity to start the early habit of transparency and constant communication with clients and their orders. The response has been welcoming. Overall, while the pandemic has had an impact, we feel blessed that the road has gone as well as it has.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about HeartWear Jewelry – what should we know?
HeartWear Jewelry is an online boutique specializing in custom designs and one-of-a-kind creations. Fueled by the desire to bring honor to God while spreading joy to others, the recipient of each piece is our focus and concern. All of our jewelry is handcrafted with care and customizable. Why? Because there is value in women understanding that it is okay to ask for what you want and to expect more than the minimum standard.

As a handmade shop, our items aren’t mass-produced and are created in limited quantities. Small batches and unique designs play right into the purpose of the business – providing unique experiences and creations for each woman. We work primarily with women who aren’t looking to buy jewelry that they can find everywhere else. Their custom orders are either for themselves or for a close friend/family member. Whether they have a gift idea in mind or they are planning for a special event, it’s an honor that they continue to choose HeartWear Jewelry.

Wrap bracelets are our specialty and what we’re known most for. They are so easy to wear because they are already layered, as they wrap around your wrist in as many layers as you’d like (typically 3). From glass pearl to faceted gems and everything in between, these bracelets tend to be a top request.

We are most proud of the message that is being communicated – You are special. You are different. And that’s okay! The goal is not to build a brand around women who all look and think the same. Women are not a monolith. The feeling that women get when they open the jewelry that was crafted just for them is indescribable and the fact that they then want to share that feeling with others is why we’re still here.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Communication is the most important factor in our success. Not only do we need to communicate with each other on the aspects of the business and where we want it to go, but we also have to be sensitive to the requests made by our clients as they place their jewelry orders.

As a handmade shop, we’re not simply order-takers where it’s plug and chug. Each woman’s order is special to them so it’s special to us. Listening to their specific requests and not only what they want, but why makes for the end result to be a positive experience.
