Meet C.René Washington of The Midlife Remix

Today we’d like to introduce you to C.René Washington.

Hi C.René, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a life coach for women, particularly women in midlife transition. I’m deeply passionate about women freeing themselves to focus on and prioritize dreams and desires that have been long suppressed after years of taking care of other people’s priorities.

The seeds of creating this work I love began in Atlanta back in the nineties when I began attending the phenomenal conference for Black women, African American Women On Tour (AAWOT). That’s where I saw pre-Oprah Iyanla Vinzant, Patricia Russell-McCloud, Les Brown, Maya Angelou, George Fraser, Jewel Diamond Taylor, Bertice Berry, and more!

Living in Birmingham, AL…traveling to the ATL frequently became my Wakanda escape before even knew there was a Wakanda. I felt freer there and able to revel fully in my Blackness. I seriously considered moving there, but then my first niece was born and became ALL in Aunty. I settled for it being my second home. Friends who here teased me about knowing more about what was going on in the city than they did.

When I hit mid-forties, life got complicated. My marriage began crumbling, I had a mini-stroke, got divorced, my mom died unexpectedly, and I ‘retired’ from a 28-yr corporate career two years before official retirement. That’s the cliff notes version of about a seven years span of drama and trauma…

After leaving corporate (I was a management development manager), people still called me for coaching. I decided to get a life coach certificate and that’s how started this entrepreneurial life chapter. I’ve written a book, Take The Trip! 4 Journeys Every Midlife Woman Needs To Live In Purpose and Freedom and recently launched a private podcast and community (it’s a paid membership) called The Midlife Remix. It’s only been live a few weeks and we already have a global community! 👏🏾👏🏾

Fun Fact: I did remarry after a six years long-distance relationship with a NYC FBI agent. We were married in 2013 in a surprise (to our friends) wedding at the Georgian Terrace.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road! I’ve many ups and downs, mostly connected to fear and feeling unworthy of success. My zone of genius is mindset coaching and I definitely have to continuously drink my own Mud/Wtr (a coffee alternative I love). I’ve operated in different lanes, solopreneurship, partnership, and as an in-house for some business coaches.

I’ve considered quitting many times, but God always sends a Keep Going! Sign: a new client, a testimony from a past client, or some new opportunity to do what I do best: help women get out of their way to get the life they want.

Covid helped clarify much. I worked as an in-house coach during most of 2020 and that gig really helped me own the value I bring. I resigned in May and in September launched my grand experiment: a paid podcast. I’m building from the ground up and have never been happier!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a master-certified life coach, podcast host, author, and midlife maven. I’m known for my straight-no-chaser style and for successfully coaching women through navigating major life transitions and breaking through what’s blocking them from their goals and dreams.

My mantra is let that shit go! and that’s what I help woman do by getting ’Who I Am’ clarity, determining what they want, taking the action to get it, and establishing self-honoring boundaries to keep it.

I started the podcast because I want midlife women to have a coach in their ear encouraging them to drop obligated living and prioritize themselves and their dreams. I know from clients and from personal experience that women pretty much know what they want, they just don’t believe they can have it.

I’m most proud of the testimonies I receive from clients who’ve 180’d their lives in the best of ways or who’ve been deeply impacted by my book. I love that women often quote me and I’m excited the Ah-mazingness that’s going to come from the podcast. I believe that women over 50 should be running the world and I want as many women as possible to live their personal brand of freedom and become a part of setting this world straight!

Any woman who’s ready for It’s My Time living needs to join The Midlife Remix. The paid membership is a steal (for now) and membership is lifetime. I do one-to-one coaching on a limited basis and I only work with women who are serious about taking ‘get my life’ action.

The Midlife Remix podcast is set up to be (mostly) private (a few episodes are released publicly) and to hear all of them requires a paid membership to the community. There are three membership levels:

Tier 1 all episodes and the quarterly book club

Tier 2 above + the monthly coaching salin, happy hours, and first opportunity for live events and retreats

Annual all of Tier 2 with two months savings

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Coaching is needed now, more than ever. The world of work is shifting and employees are in the catbird seat! There are official and anecdotal stories about The Great Resignation and I love the newer tag, The Great Realization.

Coaching helps you assess and close the gap between point A to point B. There are millions of people who want to close that gap.

  • Tier 1: $10 p/month for podcast episodes and book club membership
  • Tier 2: $20 p/month for podcast episodes, book club, monthly coaching salon and first notification for live events and retreats
  • Annual: $200 Tier Two benefits
