Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlin Tabilog.
Caitlin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had an interest in taking photos since I was in middle school. I remember taking my little point-and-shoot camera everywhere I went and taking photos of my friends and I and our surroundings. It wasn’t until I was a senior in high school that I noticed lots of my classmates posting their senior portraits on Facebook and thinking, “Wow these are beautiful!” I began to be curious about photography and wanted to learn how these professionals took photos like these. Growing up, my dad would do photography as a hobby and one day after school, he let me borrow his DSLR to take pictures of my friends at a local park. After the photo shoot, I realized how much I loved the experience and how the photos came out that I wanted to keep shooting all the time. Since that time, I’ve worked for local photographers and a photography company where I was able to learn the professional and technical aspects of photography. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and support of my family, friends and local creatives who believed in me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m a firm believer in the cliche, “Nothing worth having comes easy.” I actually appreciate all the mistakes I’ve made along the way with photography as I learned something valuable from them and improved and changed that problem the next time. Being a portrait photographer, you get to meet all kinds of different people and you learn how to communicate and connect with all types of personalities. Professional portrait photography is a very competitive world and it can either make or break you. I’ve learned to love and accept the challenge, which has come to push me everyday to be a better photographer than I was yesterday.
Caitlin Tabilog Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At Caitlin Tabilog Photography, we specialize in all types of portraiture; from models, headshots, events, families and seniors in studio, outdoors or both. Our company is most proud of starting a business at such a young age and pushing ourselves to grow our company exceedingly each year. It’s a pretty awesome feeling looking back at the photos I took when I was 18 years old and comparing them to the photos I’m taking today at 22 years old, remembering and appreciating all the people I have met along the way who have helped me get to where I am today. Our portraits are known for having bright and vibrant colors with natural looking retouching, and our sessions include candid and posed portraits. I believe in bringing out your best, beautiful self while also still letting you feel and look like yourself during our sessions. It is our mission to put the clients needs first as we won’t love your photos until you love them first. As a portrait photographer, I strive for every client to leave their session feeling like they had fun and feeling confident and beautiful regardless of their session type.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It is always a blessing when a fashion magazine decides to publish our editorial and I’m thankful to have been published in print in Ellements, Elegant and Surreal Beauty Magazine so far. However, I am always super happy when clients react to their photos saying things like, “I never knew I could be a model until looking at these pictures!” or, “wow you brought out a side of me I never knew I had!” Comments like these make me feel like, I accomplished my goal as a photographer of bringing out the best in people, physically and internally.
