Meet Catina Stavroulakis of ART BATH SOUL in Virginia Highland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catina Stavroulakis.

Catina (Cat) is a Bay Area transplant, new to the Virginia Highland Neighborhood. She has worked in a variety of industries starting as a retail clerk, seamstress, food server, car saleswoman, aerospace technician and holds certifications in Cosmetology and Aviation Maintenance. Following 9/11 layoff’s from her aerospace career, somehow all of the career paths merged and she started her first entrepreneurial en-devour in the SF Bay area in 2001, manufacturing bath salts and personal care products (The Salt Project, inc). The Salt Project brand products are still manufactured in California and are shipped around the world, as well to her Atlanta boutique, ART BATH SOUL, and they are the featured body-care products in the shop. The name ART BATH SOUL is a play on the 70’s & 80’s hit show Soul Train’s tag-line, LOVE PEACE AND SOUL.

Cat brings a fun & funky vibe to the main intersection (Virginia X Highland), hosting regular drum circles for the public, live art exhibitions, and conversational gatherings in the Enrichment Lounge, located at the back of the store. Enticed by the 10′ wide (tiny space), she retrofits the historic space with her bold colors, scents and Self.

She is also known in the neighborhood for co-founding the non-profit organization, Beautify Va-Hi, a grassroots effort to bring vitality back into the historic business corridor. She loves that this is the kind of neighborhood with the “usual suspects” (locals/regular customers) who care about their community. Cat also believes in leaving things in better condition than she found them.

Has it been a smooth road?
As a small business owner, two things are always seemingly a challenge: cash flow and time/task lists.

Starting a business is filled with creative ideas and dreams or “doing your thing” and sharing it with the world, which is your focus… then the record scratches and the reality of dealing with HR issues, IT matters, janitorial failures, marketing yourself, etc, etc, etc… and STILL having to continue to make your dreams come true, become real. The course requires praying for strength & vision, hoping that you don’t starve to death or short-circuit from being a jack of all trades on a shoe-string budget. Finally, however, if you can hang in there and get some traction, the tides will roll in your favor… until the next cycle of matters arises to meet you. It is certainly a roller-coaster ride that requires a strong stomach and fierce resolve.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
ART BATH SOUL is an urban bath shop & Enrichment Lounge featuring local artists and artisan-made products. Entering the shop is an “experience” that is sure to “elevate the way you feel” by raising your vibrations through colors, scents, sounds, visual art, music, literature, creativity & wellness.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is a great city for business — you can feel the vibe of money being made and money being spent in this town. However, like most large cities, the homeless population in our community is under-served and we have a humanitarian duty to care for those who are unable (with physical or mental deficiencies) to care for themselves.
