Today we’d like to introduce you to Cato Mac.
Cato, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Atlanta, GA moving from school to school and home to home. As a kid, the only thing on my mind was basketball I lived and breathed it. As life pretty much hit me in high school, I had no choice but to drop out and get my GED. My passion for being a Film Director started back in 2012. I was a freshman in college simply doing youtube videos with my friends on campus. After departing from school in 2013, I was stuck with the choice of what to do with my life. I decided to join the army. While in the army reserves and moving from job to job, I just couldn’t take it knowing that I was destined for something greater. One thing about me if the feeling is right, I go for it. I was introduced to my now mentor Chris Kelly of KB Media. The day I met him, I didn’t even own a camera yet I was borrowing cameras from friends.
The year is now 2016, my first official gig would be with Bronner Bros Hair Show I went on throughout the years doing corporate work with Bet, Denny’s, Tom Joyner, Face and Body and many many more. But doing corporate work limited me to my creativity. I am now running my own film company Cato Mac Films where the main focus is music videos and cinema. Where one day, I will impact the world with my mind in film.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, the road to success is never smooth. Working for myself for the past three years has been the hardest challenge. Figuring out how to pay this bill and that bill even being in a relationship to where you have to have a partner who believes in you just as much as you do. But in my opinion, the hardest struggle is getting a random person to believe and invest in your dream. Which is why you have to learn to kick the door down instead of waiting for somebody to open it for you.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Here at Cato Mac Films, I specialize in creating the best and most original content for our clients. Music videos, short films, even weddings. I am most known for the quality content and the process that comes with it. As a company, I am most proud of how consistent I have been. With people telling me daily stop or go to plan B, I block that out knowing there is no plan B when plan A will work. What sets me apart from others would be my creativity. Yes, everybody is creative in their own way but looking at my peers, everybody vision looks the same on camera. But I choose to stray away from what’s “In” and go with what’s different.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the tall goofy kid in class that everybody loved. My interests were to only play ball, nothing more, nothing less.
