Meet Chanté Dent of Earnest Love in Gwinnett County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanté Dent.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chanté. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Enduring childhood sexual assault, then sexual trauma as an adult that resulted in pregnancy, put me in a category I would have never envisioned. For quite some time, I buried the pain and wore many masks to cover shame, confusion, and insecurities. Even with the experiences I endured, there was hope in my heart that would not die. I remember the day I decided to fight for my emotional freedom. Frankly, I was tired of waking up to dark days and struggling to enjoy a life free from the residue of sexual trauma. The decision to heal emotionally was worthwhile, and it was bigger than me.

I opened up to the support of my family, friends, and therapist. I gave birth to a baby girl who was adopted, an open adoption, in which we stay in touch with the family. Soon after, I became a Rape Crisis Counselor, and today, I am the founder of Earnest Love Inc., a non-profit committed to helping women heal emotionally, love earnestly, and live freely.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was not always smooth, but it has been clear. I experienced setbacks, or let’s say “pauses” in my healing journey when I encounter individuals who lacked empathy and support. I struggled when I felt emotionally weak. At times, triggers and memories of being sexually violated left me angry, feeling shallow and even more insecure. Yet, I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel, and I pursued.

Please tell us about Earnest Love.
The mission of Earnest Love is to help women heal, love, and live again. We believe emotionally healthy women become emotionally healthy mothers, wives, employees, employers, entrepreneurs, and friends, all of which lead to strong families and stronger communities. We serve women who vary in age and walks of life through in-person and online classes, workshops, talks, and panel discussions. Participants find comfort in connecting with an organization that will not cast judgment on them or their experiences. Our participants feel the empathy and support offered through Earnest Love. We connect to the heart of the women.

As a speaker, I transparently share how the sour lemons in my life became sweet lemonade. I offer support to the adoption community, and even talk to offenders, sharing how violence affects victims and how they, too, can heal from emotionally wounded experiences. In my book, My Lemonade Recipe, Turning Life’s Sour Experiences Into Something Sweet, I share my story, and undeniable passion – to give the emotionally wounded hope so they can heal, and enjoy life.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
When I reflect on my journey, I would have used more wisdom in terms of who I allowed in my inner circle. I always tell people to protect their peace, joy, and healing journey. These areas are like vital organs, and the less damage to them, the better you will be able to function.
