Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherante Walker.
Cherante, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for taking pictures. My earliest memory of myself really enjoying taking pictures was when I was around nine years old. My family was on a trip to six flags and my mother bought me a little disposable point and clicked camera. After we got the film developed, I instantly fell in love with taking pictures. Because of that trip, I was always asking for a camera for my birthday, Christmas, etc. Even though I had a camera pretty much all the time after, up until I graduated high school, I never thought about doing it as a career, I just really enjoyed taking nice pictures.
I took my first official photography after I graduated high school during my freshman year at college. From there with each picture I took I fell even more in love with it because I was learning not only about taking pictures but also the technical side and how to edit them properly. When I learned the technical side, a whole new love blossomed of editing. That’s when I got into graphic design and from there I wanted to get better at so I watched hours and hours of YouTube videos until I got decent at my craft and was able to implement it into my photography.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It took me a minute to actually get my first professional camera that I owned. Before then I either borrowed a camera or I would check out a camera from school (if they were available). Even during this whole process, I was still difficult getting models when I first started out. To get around this, I would take self-portrait photos. That’s why many of my earlier photos have doubles or triplets of me in them. Eventually, it grew into a unique style that I really still do till this day.
Please tell us about 11.06am.
11.06am is an art company at its core. At the moment we offer photography, videography, and graphic design services. This business makes me proud because it was built from the ground up by one person and has developed and evolved into much more than what it was intended to be. What sets us apart is 11.06am is more than just the name of the company, it’s also a person and a time of rebirth.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’ve always loved summer. Being outside and hanging with my friends with my camera was always the best.
