Meet Christopher Butts of Calvin Butts Memorial Scholarship in The West End

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Butts.

Christopher Butts is a native of Riverhead, Long Island. He graduated in 2005 and matriculated to Rome, Georgia after the death of his brother. He was granted an opportunity to teach lacrosse and felt that was the change he needed in his life. Once the season was over, he transitioned to Atlanta, because he felt it coincided with his energetic and outing personality. At the age of thirty-three, Christopher has managed to obtain an undergraduate degree in Social Science and a Master’s Degree in Leadership. He is a special needs teacher in Fulton County and a proud member of Mount Paran Church of God, where her serves as a youth mentor for the special need’s family ministry. Having a background in coaching lacrosse and education, it put Chris in a position to contribute to the lives of high school seniors. After the death of his brother Calvin Butts in 2009, his family started a scholarship fund in his honor. They have given out over fifty scholarships in New York and recently expanded to Atlanta in 2019, where they have raised over 10K and have given out more than eight scholarships nationwide. Christopher mission is to continue helping and connecting people, and improving the lives of those around him through education and leadership.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Dating back to the untimely death of my brother in 2009, and having encountered several battles with depression and phases of mental illness.

Calvin Butts Memorial Scholarship – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Calvin Butts Memorial scholarship serves those students in their quest for knowledge and lifelong learning through overcoming hardships and adversity. Chris is an educator by profession, who specializes in exceptional education. Most known for playing and coaching high school/collegiate lacrosse. In addition to being the Co-CEO of the Calvin Butts Memorial Scholarship. Chris has been blessed to be in a position to contribute to the lives of high school seniors. What sets him apart is following the death of his brother Calvin Butts in 2009 his family started a scholarship and apparel line linked directly to honor his name. They have given out over fifty scholarships in New York and recently expanded to Atlanta in 2019, where they have raised over 10K and have given out more than 8 scholarships nationwide. Christopher’ mission is to continue helping and connecting people, and improving the lives of those around him through education and leadership.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have focused on one main aspect of my life and pursued it relentlessly.
