Meet Chuck Walden of The Chuck Walden Mortgage Team with Silverton Mortgage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Walden.

Chuck, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in the mortgage business 15 years ago. After leaving the military, I moved to Atlanta and purchased a small manufacturing company with my father. I was looking for another challenge and found that in the mortgage industry.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There has been two major obstacles that I have overcome since starting this career. First, the real estate market crashed about 9-10 years ago. It was a struggle for most but fortunately, I had positioned myself in such a way that I was able to “survive” the downturn. I truly believe that the struggles people went through, taught us all valuable lessons and made us better than ever.

Second, in 2012 I was working at least 90 hours per week. I was doing very well but I had no help where I was working at the time. So, I made a decision to leave the industry and took a job as a security contractor in Afghanistan.

After doing that for 13 months, the mortgage business seemed like the most logical choice for me to continue my career. I found a company that firmly believes in taking care of their employees and treat them like family. They also believe in providing help for you to grow your business while still having time to enjoy life.

The Chuck Walden Mortgage Team with Silverton Mortgage – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I run the Chuck Walden Mortgage Team with Silverton Mortgage. We specialize in Conventional loans, VA and FHA, and Jumbo financing. When I am asked to talk about my team, it is very easy to explain our mission. First, we communicate better than anyone in the business. Information is key. We never want anyone “wondering” during the loan process.

Second, the closing date on the contract is not a suggestion. Third, we believe in relationships, not transactions. And finally, we are not perfect. We will always make the needs of our referral partners and their clients our number one priority. Things happen and it’s how you handle it that matters.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I got back into the mortgage business, I literally had to start over. My proudest moment is looking back three years and seeing how far I have come since.
