Meet Ashlie Muller of A Classy Occasion in North Atlanta & North Georgia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlie Muller.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashlie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started twelve years ago when I started working at a country club. I was told that I would be working in banquets. With no idea what that was, I envisioned something like an awards banquet. It was a surprise to me when I found myself working as a server at a wedding. After that, I was excited to go to work every weekend and I found that I really enjoyed my job.

At the time, I was eighteen years old and was still trying to figure out what type of job/career I could see myself doing for a long time. Over the years, I had many ideas of what I could do: at first, I thought of being a nurse, but then that changed to be a pediatrician. I finally came to terms that I didn’t want to go to school for eight plus years and I nearly pass out when getting shots; so that was out. Since I have always been fascinated with how crimes are solved and watched a lot of True Crime TV, I considered a career as a Criminal Pathologist but then, I realized that I probably would never be able to sleep well at night. Then, there was a time where I thought of becoming a chef. I learned how to cook by watching Food Network and reading stacks on stacks of how-to books on cooking; even How to Cook for Dummies. I really fell in love with all things cooking. After working in a kitchen for two years, when I was still a teenager; I realized that I really didn’t want to become a professional chef and I would just stay in my own kitchen.

I have always felt entrepreneurial and wondered what could I do or create; for my own empire? That idea always stuck around. Back at the country club, someone asked me what I wanted to major in and I told them Business Management. They told me I should try Hospitality; it’s a combination of business and learning the ins and outs of what I was already doing with weddings; which is part of hospitality. I thought it was a great idea, so I finally enrolled in college. I immersed myself in the world of Hospitality and gained an even greater passion for the wedding industry. My mom has told me that I have always had a very imaginative and creative mind; weddings is where my mind can play and use that imagination and creativity.

Since then, I’ve had several different jobs in the Hospitality field and worked my way up in leadership roles. But, I always came back to weddings, as my first love. About five years ago, the idea came to me that I can do this; plan weddings for my very own couples. So, I started the journey to building my wedding planning business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a long five years in the making. I’ve been building this business along with working a full-time job, then I had to put it on hold for over three years. Since then, I refocused, started networking and learning from my fellow creatives. I’ve learned the importance of building a brand and taking action to make things happen! Last year, I made the decision that I was going to make this business dream a reality, trust God with this dream and take a leap of faith. Since then, I have been able to take this business full time, many good things have happened, amazing opportunities have come and I’m continuing to grow my business.

Besides my faith in God; I have not been alone in the process of making my business happen: The amazing community of wedding professionals, here in Atlanta, has helped in many ways. The support of my mom, who told me a long time ago to “dream big”; I’ve been doing a lot of that. My husband has always believed in my dream and ability, even when other people shot me down, even when doubts came; he has always been there to pick me back up and help me to see my ability and confidence.

I’m the planner of classic, pretty and joyful weddings for couples who believe that true love never fails, and that love can last a lifetime. Your wedding day is going to be one of your best days ever, so it should be celebrated! A Classy Occasion is where I plan, design, style and coordinate those weddings.

I am most proud of a company, that I get the honor of being a part of taking my couples’ dream and creating a reality that they will remember for a lifetime. I take their story, as a couple and create a day that invites their guests to step inside that story. It’s a big responsibility and one I will never take lightly, but it makes me proud to see my couples happy, full of joy and leaving with good memories to look back on. Knowing that I was a part of making all that happen, makes me feel like my job has a purpose.

What sets me apart, from what I’ve heard from my past clients is my ability to make people feel at ease, my attention to detail, my caring spirit and my ability to always be at the right place at the right time.
