Meet Damien Ellison of LoveSoul Records

Today we’d like to introduce you to Damien Ellison.

Damien, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started singing after I auditioned for the praise team at my church in 2006. I then began singing regularly at weekly services. That evolved into leading worship weekly, and for different church events such as retreats, conferences, and worship nights. Coupled with my involvement at my church I also went to school for music. I majored in worship/music ministry at Atlanta Christian College (now Point University). Here and at my church is where my songwriting truly grew and started to develop strongly. As I experienced different things at church, school and within my personal life, my catalog of songs grew with each experience.

Upon graduating from Atlanta Christian College, started graduate school at Liberty University. Here I obtained two Masters Degrees: one in Worship Studies: Leadership, and the second in Music & Worship. Once I completed the second degree, I released my first single on digital outlets called “Desperate,” in 2015. I had always decided to start a record label as I continued to write songs. I wanted to do this so I could have creative control over my music. I also wanted to start a label so worship artists or artists who love God and love to sing about Him could have a place to record their music and get their message out there. So in 2016 I started LoveSoul Records.

Has it been a smooth road?
No it has not been a smooth road. The biggest struggle for me is lack of funding. Because I’m an indie artist with an indie label, the money to fund everything comes from me.

Even recording has been a bit of a challenge because of budgetary restrictions.

Thankfully Atlanta does not have a shortage of recording studios so that is great to have access to!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LoveSoul Records – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is a record label. I am the founder/owner. I primarily see myself as the artist right now more than a record executive. However, because I’ve been recording an EP myself, I produce my own music. I am also a songwriter, composer of music as well. I’ve aided in the production of local rap/hip-hop artist Danny Script’s music as well.

I am known for leading worship. I am also known for the many songs of written. I’ve introduced some of these songs throughout my performances as an artist and worship leader. I’ve also been recently sought out to train and develop worship leaders/teams for their church services.

My label is not fully off the ground yet and still in the beginning stages, but I am most proud of starting it. Moreover, I am proud that because I am the first artist on the label, that the recording, production, songwriting and vocal/musical arrangement of each song is hand tailored by me. I think this sets me apart from others because not many artists can say that they write all of their material and own the label that they’re signed to.

LoveSoul Records speaks to loving God with all your heart, Soul, mind and strength. Then showing that love for God through the songs each artist/songwriter pens. The Greek definition for the word “Soul,” means breath, the word “Love,” speaks to the fact that God is Love. So each artist that comes on board as the opportunity to sing about their love for God with every breath they take. Moreover, delivering passionate lyrical content with every breath in their body.

This helps set me apart because I’m not just talking about getting music out there but also a showing one’s love for their Creator through the way they create.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the different people you can meet here. I dislike the amount of travel time it takes to get to places. I love the concerts, and different church conferences & worship nights at different churches. I love that people within my age range are branching out and becoming business owners, allowing their creative ability to be shown within through what they’re good at. Other like minded people that fall within my age range are not stuck on the status quo but are willing to go against the grain to do what they love. I love that about people here. I also love the lofts and modern living here. I love the pockets of nice homes throughout metro Atlanta. I love the different restaurants. I also love the fact that there are a lot what appears to be successful business owners/people here.
