Meet Dat Gurl Secrete

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dat Gurl Secrete.

Hi Dat Gurl, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
In addition to pursuing music and dance since elementary school, my passion has always been to help others. As a result, I started Virtual Career Solutions in 2011. Virtual Career Solutions provides home-based customer service opportunities for various Fortune 500 companies. Virtual Career Solutions also assists with business development for nonprofit and for-profit entities. Having the ability to be a business consultant for other budding entrepreneurs is an amazingly rewarding experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey of entrepreneurship has been a bumpy, winding, long road. Starting out with little to no start-up capital is one of most difficult struggles an entrepreneur can endure. However, believing in my vision and educating myself in topics such as budgeting, accounting, and other areas of financial literacy has had a tremendous impact on my ability to recognize and adapt to overcome any obstacles that were presented along my journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
From a creative standpoint, I am known for making fun, original music while showing others that there are always to “boss up” your life. Performing for local nonprofit youth organizations allows me to interact with youth in the community and encourage them to dream big! I’m extremely proud of the work I have done helping business entities to grow and flourish. I also volunteer and work with local politicians in the metropolitan area developing campaign initiatives that can continue to have a meaningful impact on community development. That is definitely what I am most proud of… influencing true change.

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
In my opinion, risk-taking is an essential and necessary component of being a successful entrepreneur. I have taken many risks throughout my career as musical artist and business owner. One of the most significant risks I have taken in my career was opening a restaurant in a different country. I literally moved there and the opportunity was presented so fast that I did not have much time to make a decision, so I decided to take a risk. While the risk did pay off, once the coronavirus pandemic started, the restaurant had to be closed and I definitely lost a lot of valuable time and invested resources as a result. I do not regret the experience at all and I am truly thankful that I had the opportunity so that my next restaurant venture will be a successful one!
